Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo lovers, how did you feel when Sega finally died?

Sega is a has been company...I'm tired of all the we will make a Sonic game that matter and resulting disappointing games. They haven't made a good game in 2010s.

I don't think any or at least the majority of fans of Sega or Nintendo hated the other company as it was more playful banter back then with the net not being a platform to bait people. Seeing Sega go down was not a nice event as they're the only company that were like Nintendo in their software approach but at the same time the were signs things weren't in order as SOJ and SOA were having some kind of civil war since the mid 90s while SOE were non existent.

At the time I was happy because it meant that the GCN would be getting Sega games. Looking back, though, it was really sad because the fall of Sega partly contributed to the westernization of the video game industry which not only hurt Nintendo but in my opinion also has really harmed the quality of video games as a whole.

Kinda sad, but at the time no one knew Sega would kinda disintegrate the way they have.

I was 4 when it happened and didn't even know about the Nintendo/Sega rivalry. I'm pretty sure I wasn't even aware that Sega was making consoles at that point.

It was quite sad. I had only bought Nintendo's systems (couldn't afford more than 1 system+games/gen) but I had fond memories of playing Sonic, Castle of Illusion etc. on a friend's Mega Drive. I prefered Nintendo but not to the point where I wanted SEGA dead.

It bummed me out. I still kind of long for the days when video games were doninated by companies who primarily focused on said industry rather than some of the largest corporations (Microsoft) and conglomerates (Sony) on the planet. It was inevitable and I like those two just fine, but it feels like the industry lost some of its personality that set it apart from the others.

Overall I was kind of sad as I owned a dream cast and as a kid was more into sega than Nintendo until they lost me with the Saturn and I moved on to the n64/PlayStation. That said, it was much like when Atari bowed out in that it was no surprise as it'd been out of most of our lives in NA for a generation due to the failure of the Saturn to catch on.

Really, it just makes me more impressed that Nintendo is still around... With the kind of money Sony/Microsoft are throwing around and the losses they're often willing to accept, there's not much room left.

I don't think I was aware at the time of Sega's demise.. :/

I joined the Sega fanbase in 1999. I liked the Hedgehog before that but snubbed my nose at the quality of the other 90's offerings. I loved my Dreamcast so much. I was badly scarred by it's untimely death. Everyone bragged about playstation and madden and I just wanted my Dreamcast. It was a very special entertainment system. A friend on a Dreamcast forum gave me this sig.

Very very sad.

Both Nintendo and Sega made consoles in a similar spirit. Although Sega's way was unique in and of itself.

Something irreplacable was lost. Unlike if say, Sony or Microsoft would have left.

I LOVE ICELAND!
