Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox need to resume the $50 price advantage over PS4 to compete.

Given that Microsoft has slightly inferior spec then PS4 there no reason for them selling at the same price. They need to maintain the $50 advantage just to garther some interest from non-Xbox fans. Microsoft need to focus on the lifetime of the console over short gain. Microsoft should drop the MSRP to $299 permanently with the release of Division or Quantum break, Sony seem unconcern last year about Microsoft selling for cheaper and at this point it's microsoft only thing that they can do to sway future console buyer.

Getting outsold 2:1 in the US, last NPD.... Id say your right.

The problem is (looking at amazon here).

The best selling PS4 is the CoD BO3 bundle @349$ (around 15th spot)

The best selling XB1 is the GoW UE bundle @300$ (around 30th spot)

Basically its already 50$ cheaper, and its still not selling like it is the cheaper of the two.

The problem:

PS4 has more exclusives & multi-plat games run better on it.

Im not sure a 50$ price advantage makes up for that.

The two things that are "hurting" Microsoft as it relates to the PS4 are:

1. Lack of diversity in first part options.

2. Their clear focus on a shared platform for XB1 and PC.

The 2nd item is why I put the " around hurting. I think their change in strategy is brilliant despite the fact that they are going to cannibalize their own hardware sales with XB1 to some extent. I don't think Microsoft sees as much opportunity in console hardware as they do in subs and software, thus the change over in philosophy.

Also, so long as they are profitable in their gaming market they are competing. The "must be #1 in sales" thing is a console war driven, not company driven, narrative.

They tried the $50 less move already, PS4 still sold better. I don't believe they have much faith in the consoles market at this point.

Microsoft should focus on supporting Windows 10 and making their games as nearly un-pirateable as possible.

microsoft would need a diversified catalog of exclusive first party games to compete not a 50$ price advantage.

^ this.

The problem is thats thinking long term, because if you start game developement now,

you wont see the game until 2-3 years from now.

Hopefully MS realised this long ago and started alot of game companies working on titles only for Xbox.

id say they need a xbox one slim with a 50 dollar price cut for holidays

Yes. Xbox One is HUUUUGE compaired to the PS4, and since they took out the kinect, it should be able to be made much much smaller.

A 14nm chip, a slim smaller box, and price cut (down to 249$) and yes sales should be up alot compaired to what they are now.

The way things are rolling I doubt anything MS can do will be an advantage over PS4.

Selling more units isn't necessarily a good thing, if they need to sell about five extra games per unit to make up the price drop.
