I managed to get online and play through all the story modes so I got all the points for them. Haven't been able to actually face an opponent online yet however. Hopefully the sort things out soon.

Right, when you play offline it tells you no points will be gained while offline. I think that currency is used for unlocking items in the future as well, so that sucks.

Bottom line, you need to be online to get points.
