Forums - PC Discussion - Hey PC gamers, what does the PC as a gaming platform mean to you?

PC is a platform with no real linits, I can completely customize everything to my liking, from things like my user interface, the browser I use, and when it comes to gaming, things like mods, graphics settings, and whatnot.

I still mainly play on Nintendo consoles, but when it comes to all those triple A third party titles, PC is my go to platform.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Hmm, I'll try to edit the thread. I was afraid it may be to long and convoluted

I see myself as a gamer. I own a kickass sexy pc, and I game on consoles too. Not sure how to answer your questions cuz i don't let anything hold me back.

Windows 10 all the way

Feel free to disclose your input as openly as possible from your persepective as a fan of your prefered platform as honestly as possible. I just find, in this instance, that a PC gamer's opinion is much more valuable because they are simply more involved in PC gaming. I was asking if you think things like Windows 10 as a seperate platform to another OS or simply think PC altogether is one thing and consoles and are the only seperate platform.

Here is my input; I'm only interested in PC exclusives, and not any exclusive, I get games that is only possible on PC. That means I want to put my GTX 980Ti to work because most of the games out there bores it sleep, or it doesn't even make it break a sweat. When it comes to the OS, I prefer Windows OS, and for graphic card, well I have a GTX 980Ti, I prefer Nvidia, because developers tend to optimize their games better on it.

Now why I like PC gaming. Simply put, it is where I can get the best graphics, more dynamic bigger open world. Some people talk about free online, but I don't really give a crap about online games unless it's an mmo that is dedicated to being online 24/7 like Star Citizen, and Black Desert Online.

What I don't like about PC gaming is the lack of physical media, I hate having everything digital, and the fanboys although you can find them on both sides, I hate them both.

For PC it's exactly the same for me.
Before PC, my gaming platforms were Intellivision and ZX Spectrum, and I'd buy again a console if I had more time, but I haven't even all the time I'd need to play PC games in my backlog.
I do also some casual gaming on my tablet, but I find it too addictive and at the same time not enough satisfying, it eats my gaming time like a bad, cheap drug, like FarmVille did on PC for a while until I stopped playing it cold turkey.

Steam + GoG + emulation of old consoles + MMOS & MOBAs.

Oh and cheap games, from like Humble Bundles.

*edit: I still think you need a Playstation 4 on the side, and I prefer owning games copies on cd/dvds than just some digital download code.

I am an oldschool gamer. New games like these are vitually unseen on consoles nowadays, save for some Nintendo and Indie Titles (Which is why I also own a Wii U, but no PS4 or Xbox ONE). I also love to play old games of the 90's, where most of my most beloved games came out. As a result, I only have 35 games on Steam (and quite a few of them are donations), but 228 Games at GoG ( again, Nintendo's Vitual Console wins me over the other competing consoles on this domain)

Also, I love really complex games. Grand Strategy titles like Hearts of Iron or Victoria and 4X Games like Galactic Civilizations are games which are unseen on consoles

Edit: And then of course, Mods and user-made campaigns. I especially love the User made campaigns in Shadowrun, where good ones can be on par with the official releases, both in quality and content.

The PC has infinite potential as a gaming platform, there are so many titles, the world's biggest backlog, possibilities for emulators, connection of all kinds of devices and accessories and complete control and customization on hardware, you can build a machine tailor made for you and not mass produced to somebody else's specs and wishes.
In short; I get exactly what I want in exactly the way I want it.

And then there are mods, creative tools and every odd developer making old school tribute games like Pillars of Eternity. I still don't own any 8th gen consoles and I only bought around 15 console games for the entire 7th gen (versus well over 100 in the 6th gen) and I'm finding it harder and harder to be persuaded into buying consoles.

I can how and why consoles are popular though, I used to love it as well, I guess both me and the industry changed over the years.

To me, PC gaming is about being accessible. I can pop out my laptop at any time and play a bit. So when I game on PC, I mostly game fastpaced games that you can play in short bursts, including Rocket League and Super Meat Boy. That's not to say I don't have lengthy PC gaming sessions, but PC gaming to me fits perfectly if I only have 15-20 minutes to kill.

Its just so much to play on PC and alot of it is totally free. I can spend all day just trying new games and I dont have to spend anything.

Freedom and better control method. For that reason, I'd much rather use Linux and GOG instead of Windows and Steam, but unfortunately that's not fully realistic. Linux gaming is still far from Windows gaming, and most bigger titles don't have GOG releases until years later if ever. That said, generally I'm not very interested in AAA titles anymore, and GOG is excellent for most other games. In the end, I play games on Windows, buy them from GOG if possible, and from Steam if not possible.

I'd also prefer physical copies but it's not worth it on PC anymore. Even physical copies usually have Steam keys or something like that, and they cost a lot compared to digital copies (on sale, of course). By the way, it's ridiculous how physical is still the most appealing option on consoles, considering the prices.
