Forums - Gaming Discussion - If Sony made their own OS and if it could play PS4 games would you use it??.

No. Why would I?

Making a PlayStation OS for the PC would really be a waste of time in my opinion, not because Sony could not do it. No because its really not needed at this point.

Maybe for as a playstation mobile Phone esk Android OS based loaded on a product line of Gaming phones. In other words drop all xperia, and just make a playstation Phone and promote it like the PS4.
Dual shock 3 & 4 support
Runs on Android. And opens up publishing games on the google playstore made by PlayStation for a Mobile game platform.

Sony making exclusive mobile games on Google play as a publisher would be far better than trying to support & promote a PlayStation OS on PC.

Cross buy /cross play on Sony's Living room playstation console, but for mobile Playstation set up publishing on Google play as a publisher and developer for content. Google get 30% Sony 70% standard rates for any publisher.

Right, so Sony make an OS.... but then there are a million questions. What features it has, what programming it uses, is it open or closed, does it have a good compatible word processor etc.

The time for creating and making money from OS's is well and truly past but I would use it just to spite the others and cause I like Sony. As long as it was decent enough.

No. They're terrible at making OS's.

Look at their phones for instance. Terrible job of making a brand new interface.

I'm fine with their own hardware and their current interface.

so why are you upgrading your PC to play console games when you could just buy a console for cheaper?

You are mistaken if you think I'm upgrading my PC just to play console games.

I'm upgrading my PC for these reasons

-To have better hardware for the rendering/editing of my gaming and non-gaming videos -  on my current hardware it takes 5-6 hours to render a 20 min 1080p/60 FPS video - with better hardware consisting of a better GPU, CPU and RAM - I'll be able to render much faster and for less time for the same output.
-To record footage of games on the PC Platform at 60 FPS and at the highest resolution (1080p for now but shooting for 4k would be nice)  without any set limitations like the PS4 has or the lack of that the WiiU and 3DS has.
-To play with my friends via online MP on newer games when they come out without having to be forced to pay for it.

PS4, WiiU, 3DS nor any other console can provide me with any of that.

if you allready upgrade your PC for that reason then you could just as well installing a second PS4 OS

I think we will see soon a PS4 OS on PC Hardware but not by Sony but by Hackers just like when they made Hackintoshs for Macs. I cant wait to try it out and see how it works, even if the games would be still locked you could play your physical PS4 games with better performance overall if they drop below 30 for example, this could be fixed with better hardware.

Emulation of course, since its Unix based FreeBSD, but the tweaks they did  , are unique to the PS4. Most of the games would have tons of bugs most likely.

Not saying it would not be neat to try out, it just would be problematic to say the least.

If Sony started doing that, it could be bad for their business, as people wouldn't need to buy a PS4 to play some of their games anymore and could just satisfy that need on PC, but that would be profit on software.

Though if I could play their games on PC, I'd be more willing to, haha...

Not so fast , there think about what I pointed out. The playstation console itself is not being replaced by PS now, what Sony is doing is turning the TV itself into a PlayStation remote play node! You still will need a PlayStation console for at least one of your TV's

What Sony is doing is actually pretty clever.

They are instead of trying to replace the console itself.  Instead Sony is adding in the TV to be accessible Node for the playstation console itself.

Best way to describe it.

Take a piece of paper, draw a picture of a TV.

Now under the TV put three columns.

One column for Microsoft, one for Sony & one for Nintendo.

Now in the column have console written in each column, draw an Arrow to the TV. But put Android OS written on the TV, circle TV now draw an arrow to Sony's column only.

Think about this for a sec. Instead of having to put a console under every TV in your household you can stream content from one single PlayStation console to any number of TV's in your house. But Also smart phones, tablets or PC's that still require a Playstation console. Or use online servers.

The key point is playstation is the center hub, smart devices that included the TV itself are being turned into playstation nodes.

Nintendo & Microsoft are not turning the TV itself into a Nintendo or Microsoft Node for their Eco system its still trying to put a box under every TV.

The TV. Is now a general use compute device without needing a console. But having one console box being able to stream to all TV's in your house, but the TV itself having playstation software inside the TV from the getgo is the point.

Its being Absorbed into Sony's PlayStation Eco system, not excluded by having to have a box under every TV. Long term goal is what all TV's are all SmartTV's being produced Sony's PlayStation Eco system is already inside your TV itself.bthst by adding a PlayStation console to just one of your TV's allows them all to work in conjunction.

What exactly does the PS4 provide in this "mode"? What exactly is being streamed? I assume its content other than gaming, which would be pointless since those smarttvs already have the content available that playstation is providing. They are smart tvs after all.

Nope.

It would be horrible and end up worse than Linux in terms of popularity/user cap.

PS4 has more games than Linux

Who said Linux stopped growing in terms of library?.

No not really. I'm a single OS kind of guy, I'm not into dual booting and splitting up games to be locked to so many other OS's and then stores which are then locked to clients effectively starts to become triple to quadruple layers of DRM and I just can't rock with that and it creates too much of a hassle.

Besides that I'd rather a Western OS than a Japanese one at the end of the day considering the Western side has made more pushes than the East.

Also no mod support or Steam like sales with tons if not all 3rd party support gets a total nope from me as well.

Biased much? Japanese have pushed more software and OSs than entire Europe, look at their Homecomputer history and NEC.

your so called ''western'' OS are all US-American

Right back at you.
