Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Let's face it: The 3DS needs to die ASAP

I would agree with you if I thought that Nintendo had some chance succeeding with another handheld. But as it stands, I think they were lucky to sell as many as they did and should ride the wave for as long as they can--make as much money from new software as possible. My gut tells me they're not going to get that install base again.

The 3DS is still the best platform in the market right now regardless.

Totally unbiased opinion you got there.

OT: To me Hardware doesn't matter much when it comes to handhelds. The 3DS has other, worse problems to deal with.

Agreed, just give me Pokémon Z and the next day release the NX :v

Honestly, I think the 3DS has perfect graphics for the types of games that it mostly plays. The system is filled with great niche JRPGs partly because the low-res screen allows for such short development times. It doesn't take much effort for a developer to push the boundaries of the 3DS, but it will likely take a lot of effort to push the boundaries of Nintendo's next handheld. I cringe to think how many fewer low and even medium budget games we're going to see on Nintendo's next handheld if it has development timelines anywhere near that of the Wii U. You can definitely say goodbye to yearly Etrian Odyssey releases.

do you have any facts to back up your claim?

It's still selling pretty well so they should keep it around for a few more years. Why drop a system that is still moving a lot of hardware and software

The sad part is that you could argue that the 3DS was technologically outdated on release -- and that was before the technology boom due to smartphones.

So was the Wii and the Wii U.  It's 3 outdated systems in a row. This is why I think the NX will be weak.  Nintendo just don't take risks with expensive high risk hardware.  Still the NX handheld will be a much needed upgrade

We truly live in a strange world these days, where opinions are criticized for being biased.

OT: If you want to play Hyrule Warriors with better graphics on a small screen you can always buy the Wii U version.

In fact, if you care this much about graphics you shouldn't buy handhelds in the first place. And Youtube capabilities were perfectly implemented on cell phones years ago; a portable device that I presume you already own.

Because they want to move a lot more hardware and software and a new system could be what achieves that. Nintendo want to return to ""Nintendo like profits" and it wasnt just the WiiU holding them back.

Which claim? And by that same token, do you?

I know I do:

Zelda games

Mario games

A multitude of jrpgs

Steetpass

Free online

Games that hold their value

Best downloadable titles

And a bunch of other shit

It's clearly the best platform currently on the market
