Forums - Gaming Discussion - Apple has a $200 billion war chest, should it buy Nintendo and Sega?

Funny and original.

In both cases, however, you are paying for an overpriced product

Except a lot more people would be cheering for the product that costs $799 for no particular reason.

Nah, the Wii U is trash even when you slap an Apple logo on it. It will flop just like the iPad Pro and the Apple Watch.

I doubt Apple will do anything soon with their 200 billion as majority is in place like Ireland and using it would mean paying taxes on it. With numbers so huge even waiting for fractions of a percent change in tax laws could affect how they handle their cash reserves.

Apple likes to post profits and have wide profit margins. Unless they changed their mind, Sony is clearly not their target.

Two things....

- Think about that for a second...

- That isn't always how acquisitions work.

OT: While it's fun to dream about these things (for the few in here that will/do), none of this is happening.

- What do I have to think?

- So you edited, and added always. My point still stands then. So, again, what do I need to think again?

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Is Sony stuck in the past? Like I said - think. Your point - Apple would want to pick up a company posting profit. Right? How is Sony not in that category?

Is every of Sony divisions posting profits?

Sega is pointless, their value has long since passed.

Nintendo though from Apple's POV wouldn't be a bad get. Exclusive Nintendo games on their iPhones, iPads, Macs, the ability to turn AppleTV into a full fledged console, etc. etc.

The problem with that is Nintendo would not willingly want to sell and they are positioned well against hostile takeover bids because they own a large chunk of their own stock.

Why they just dont buy Sony? The PS brand is stronger than ever.

Never underestimate iSheep. Apple Watch still sold over 12 million last year. Not bad considering how useless wearable tech has been so far.

As for iPad Pro...yeah, it's been a flop. Still, Apple's done well overpricing all of their other products.

Sony has a lot of extra baggage that Apple doesn't need if they just wanted to enter the living room, and like you said, they're stronger than ever so Sony selling a profitable part of the company isn't gonna happen. Nintendo though, they have IPs that are worth more than SCE's GT or Uncharted and which could work well in a mobile environment, besides Nintendo's hardware business is on the line, not just home consoles, everything hinges on the success of the NX.

It would be a bit odd, because Apple makes a lot of money from the App Store already in the gaming market

"the iPad Pro flopped and the iPad sales are in continuous decline but that doesn't scream sheep mentality but I am just gonna ignore that fact so that I can make the point of Apple products being celebrated for no particular reason" .... basically.

As for the Apple Watch, it's wildy regarded as a relative flop, some random report will not change that. But let's talk about smartwatches... Smartwatches of today will not sell based on their smart capabilities, maybe in the future, but for now, people buy them for the same reason they bought watches in the past; fashionability. Thankfully, the Apple Watch looks elegant and Apple has done a great covering a wide range of consumers' taste. So being a useless tech shouldn't stop it from attracting buyers. With that said, the "12 million" figure remains an unproven estimate like many other published estimates predicting the sales of the Apple Watch. Hopefully, the number is true because I like seeing Apple's success pissing people off
