I'm an indie game dev and I've been working on a Microsoft Surface Pro for a few years now, but I'm ready to upgrade my work machine. I planned to get the Surface Book, but seeing as I also plan to develop VR games, starting with the Oculus platform, I need to know whether or not I'll be able to do it on my new laptop once I get it. I haven't found the answer online, so this plea goes out to any Surface Book owners out there. (I supppose the Surface Pro 4 owners could aslo help, since it's almost the same internals). This link http://ocul.us/compat-tool tells you whether or not your PC is Oculus compatible. Could you please run this on your Surface?

No way.
According to Wikipedia, the best GPUs one can get with Surface Pro appear to be Intel HD5000 for Surface Pro 3, and Intel Iris 540 for Surface Pro 4.

Both appear to be way too slow for Oculus Rift. Remember, Oculus Rift considers a graphics card at least as powerful as Nvidia GTX 970 as minimum requirement.

I doubted this, so as soon as I read your message, I ran it on my dad's Surface Pro 3. Didn't work. Comparing the required specs here NVIDIA GTX 970 to the specs of the highest end Surface Book here http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.325716000 show that the Surface Book should work with the Rift. The biggest discrepancy being the GPU. The tablet's GPU seems sub-Oculus, but the detachable keyboard has an additional GPU. I'm only skeptical because I haven't yet seen a laptop that can work with the Rift

the dedicated GPU in the surface book's keyboard dock only has 384 maxwell shader cores at 1GHz, similar to a GTX 940M

a GTX 970 has 1664 maxwell shader cores at 1.1GHz, it's playing in an entirely different league performance wise
