Forums - Sony Discussion - I don't like Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection so far...

So, a newcomer to Uncharted lists some of his (valid) frustrations with the game.

Ratio of d-bag "you SUCK, noob!" responses to helpful responses: 3,875 to 1

Nice job, VGChartz community.

How?! They're the same game! Exactly the same design, only one game has a woman, the other has a dude.

Definitely not the same game. Tomb Raider lacks the charm and the gameplay is slower paced than Uncharted. Cinematics also aren't on Uncharted's level (which is okay, since that's most games anyway). As I said above, though, Uncharted needs nothing from Tomb Raider to continue being great! Tomb Raider is great, as well, but for completely different reasons.

I would say that Uncharted could learn from Tomb Raiders platforming mechanics.  Those sections in Uncharted feel like they are on rails.  Jump to only available ledge > jump to only available pipe > jump to only available window sill.

Lara's ice pick + rock climbing feels waaaay more organic.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

If I replied to the actual rant in the OP I would get myself banned.
I say this with restraint..... Uncharted 2 is widely regarded as one of the best action / adventure games ever, keep in mind it came out Oct 2009. It just featured in number 1 spot on Sam Lakes top 5 games ever list and is still a benchmark for all other adventure games.
The way I play UC games is; Enjoy the characters and narrative, this drives you forward to find out more and explore the relationships. Seek perfection in your shooting and movement, Drake is not sonic or a super soldier. He moves at normal speeds, what makes the difference is when and how you move, when to blind-fire or when to grenade. Always seek the headshot as it cuts down ammo usage and combat-time. Learn from your mistakes.... if you got caught behind cover and flanked by shotgun enemies, then make sure you take steps so that you don't end up in the same position again.
At this stage I realise some of the games parts can feel dated but not so much that an open mind could not appreciate what a masterpiece it was and still is.

The guy regularly makes threads complaining about things then never replying to him.

Many of his frustrations do require him to either get better or put it on an easier setting.

I'll give Uncharted the edge on charm, Naughty Dog is one of the most notable studios for story telling. Gameplay though... not as strong.

If anything, I think Uncharted would benefit from Tomb Raider's focus on exploration and more dynamic combat. You sound content with linear enviornments and gallery shooting with bullet sponge enemies, but I'd like to see Uncharted become more ambitious with something other than graphics.

I agree that the 1st game is very meh but like quite a few have said, the quality goes up a lot in 2 and 3.

It would be a nice touch, sure, but it's not needed. They're very different games, despite their similarities and Uncharted just needs to continue doing what's it's doing. It has obviously worked for four games, already! ^_-

Four games and only two are notable.

So 5 games and you want them all to be the same? Some people feel that's what's wrong with the modern gaming.

Hey, one man's trash is another's treasure.

However, the general concensus these days for that game isnt good. If you dont want to acknowledge the game is riddled with flaws and poorly paced, fine.

Im not saying its terrible, just bleh.

If I cared about a general consensus, I would miss out on a lot of games. Besides, I'm talking about your view, not a speculated group. I can say a bunch of people like a game, while you can say a bunch don't. Matters none.

I feel like every time I hear Uncharted 1 discussed in the media or on forums, people generally feel that game is not good but 2 and 3 are much better. Its not speculative and its not just my view, you can see that in this thread.

Hey, I like some games that don't get much praise. But I also see the flaws in those games.

Uncharted is actually considered to be a very easy game/franchise. If you're a new comer to the series maybe you should lower the difficulty? The NDC has a new one below easy called explorer mode. Maybe try that one?

Well the first one on crushing is actually pretty fucking hard (the rest not so much), mind you I completed Bloodborne on NG+, so I know what difficult is.

Yeah.  Uncharted 1 is the most difficult to beat on crushing.

I'm content with Uncharted doing what it's doing, while continuing to improve on what's already there - A Thief's End. Everything doesn't need wide open areas to be enjoyable and Uncharted certainly doesn't need to be more like Tomb Raider. If nothing esle, it is Uncharted that caused TR to completely change its tune.

I'm going to be frank here, you can continue to minimize this this franchise all you want (or sing from a mountain top how much you prefer TR - though after a while, it will need to end).

Actually, you make a point I forgot to mention. I can appreciate Uncharted 1 because it was kinda ground breaking for that style of game. It took ideas from previous Tomb Raider titles (Legends and Anniversary included) and cover shooters like Gears of War, which basically lead to a more linear Tomb Raider with better gun play. That certainly inspired the Tomb Raider reboot, but Tomb Raider and ROTTR have frankly been more ambitious than any Uncharted game in gameplay. Hence, Uncharted 1 in my mind had great ideas but didn't but didn't live up to its potential.

In a nut shell you said you're happy with Uncharted being the same thing over and over again. If you're content with that, good on ya. I personally just hope Naughty Dog gives us more than your preference of lazy game design.
