Forums - Gaming Discussion - Buying Games Blind

Have you ever bought a game blind?  or blindly recieved a game as a gift?

Reading about people's reactions to devil's third in a different thread made me wonder whether if it is always better to make an informed buying choice, or is it always better to buy a game you know you are going to like?

For example, If I only bought the games that I really wanted, I would have never discovered Yoshi's Island DS, Legend of Zelda, or Zack & Wiki.

by blind I mean purchase a title with very little information about it, reviews or otherwise

I saw Fire Emblem Awakening on the shelf one day.

Being very curious about the series, and knowing very little about the series, I decided to buy it, and try out.

Definitely one of the best purchases I've ever made.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time, Final Fantasy X, and Super Mario Advance 4 were all the best blind purchases I ever made

Bought Mario Sports Mix blindly.

Still play it when friends or family visit. Extremely fun wii game.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

Maybe I've bought some PS2 garbage off the shelves in prior days. Anyway, not within the last few years. I can rarely afford anything more than what I already plan to buy.

bet: lost

Shovel Knight

Needless to say I play it to this day 10/10 game.

Yup, used to happen a lot when I was a kid. But as I grew up and learned more about games this became a rare thing.

That said, recently I bought Dragon Quest Heroes: The World's Tree Woe and the Blight Below almost blindly and it turned out well... I'm loving the game. I just knew it was a musou, nothing else.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I bought Huniepop without any idea of what it was. I both admire and regret my decision

Persona Q, Fire Emblem Awakening and Bayonetta 2 are my most recent ones

Not recently...but when I was younger I picked up Golden Sun, Tales of Symphonia, and Fire Emblem 7 on a whim...and now all of them rank in my top games.

On the other hand...I used to get licensed games with no research as well. In particular...these Star Wars and Lord of the Rings games on the GBA were just absolutely awful.

I suppose I prefer to know what I'm getting into now....even if good surprises are always fun.
