And you think this gen many buyed both!? We have 12m Wii U owners and 58m 3DS owners, theoretically just around 1/5 3DS owners could buyed Wii U, but reality is that number is far smaller.

the only reason to buy a wiiU is you are a big nintendo fan.  a big portion of the wiiU owners have a 3ds as well.  easily enough overlap to cause a 10% drop in console sales if the library's are too similar to justify multi-console ownership.  that is, imo, a big contraction.

The key is launch momentum and must-have content. Nintendo's holding so much back from the WiiU that it's really stacking the deck for NX.

Right now, console sales seem to split something like 60% PS4 30% X1 and 10% WiiU.
Going forward with NX - I think the trend can easily go something like 50% PS4 25% X1 and 25% NX

The existing size of X1/PS4 userbase doesn't matter. If NX is new, awesome, and has great content - people will buy it.

Too late to win 8th gen, but if the home version will be early enough, but not too much (2017 or later, but at least one year before PS5 for the home version, while the portable version could be launched one year before, or the same year in another quarter, or whenever they want, as long as the transition from 3DS is well planned and executed), it could win 9th gen. If it will be a half-assed 8.5th gen it will lose both gens.

I wonder, if that number is really far smaller. I know many 3DS owners without a Wii U, but I don't know any Wii U owner without a 3DS.

I know, I know, anecdotal evidence... perhaps we should make a poll for Wii U owners... although this forum is probably far from representative.

It's very funny that people keep calling 2016 (minumum release date) as halfway through the gen. It's more than halfway ps4 and xone 5 year cycle, let alone the gen, wich started in 2012.

PS3 launched in 2006.

PS4 launched in 2013.

13 - 6 = 7 years between the two generations (Playstation gens are not 5 years long).

 

Its been like 2years and 2months since the PS4 released.

No its not halfway through the PS4 gen, its less than 1/3 rd of it.

I don't think NX will be a console, NX is going to be système including a family of products..

In first, NX will be handheld with module for online, stockage data, and display on TV.. (module will be compatible with wiiu)
Alter, NX will be smartphone Nintendo, and a console whose usine the module...

If their next console is going to suffer from a crapload of issues, just like the WiiU, then of course it won't sell well. I'd like to believe that Ninty actually has learned a damn thing from the WiiU though..

I'd like to believe too. However after the 3DS launch, Iwata said that they had leaned their lessons and they wouldn't make the same mistakes when lauching their next hardware. We all remeber the disaster that was the Wii U launch. They're sometimes so stubborn. Hopefully Nintendo can pull it off.
