Forums - Gaming Discussion - Realistically Does the Console NX Have Any Chance Against PS4/XB1?

2017 isn't even the "mid point" of the generation, it would be the late point of the generation (last 1/3).

No, mid-point.

LOL Nope. Nintendo will just have launched a new console that isnt even in the middle of a decade long cycle that Sony has started (with Microsoft following like a dog behind them) and can only probably pick up table scraps.

There's just something off with WiiU. I spoke to a few people recently who love Zelda and Mario, knew all about WWHD, TPHD and MM. But they don't own a wii u, they say they will get one but atm it's a bit pricey.

If NX can break this illusion, and actually blow people away, so their like wow look at that new Mario game, they may have a chance off selling atleast N64 levels again

All a head start means is that the X bone and PS4 will be old hats when the NX comes out.

Nintendo is going to be aiming for a larger market with the NX. Nintendo will also be also aiming to make the old repetetive and stagnating console market obsolete. It will not just disrupt the competition, but will strike to dismantle it.

Will Nintendo launch with some hit software to kick off the NX era? Let's say they will, and so Nintendo dominance in the market will return immediately. Microsoft and Sony are aiming at smaller targets, 100 million hardware units. Nintendo will likely be aiming for their numbers last generation, almost 260 million hardware units by the end of the next "cycle" if it will still be that.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Of course not, except if it's a huge sucess like the Wii, but i don't see that happening.

If it shares games with it's handheld counter part? Why would the sales be separate? Obviously Ninty wants majority of the games they make be available to their full userbase. NX home and handheld will not have their sales split because they share the same games. That will make catching them a whole lot easier.

Sounds like the canniablization of the Vita at the hands of the PS3. Its also harder to focus on two platforms when you cannot even arrage healthy third party for one of them.

as a secondary console: yes
as a primary console: no

Nintendo can't reach people who don't own a PS4 or Xbox One. Those people will prefer the PS4 or Xbox One. Nintendo has to aim for people who already own a PS4 or Xbox One and want to have a secondary console. Every thing else would be complete nonsense from Nintendo and would end in another flop.

This. Its all about salvaging whatever is left and trying to first profit. They cannot expect to beat the competition at all. Doing this just solidified that they will be a secondary platform (not the handheld).

The NX will be a 900p platform, which means...its no better if not worse than the competition. They are just going to do their own thing and hopefully they gain some third party or else this whole launch is a bust for console (not the handheld).

Wii U is 720p platform, and most of Nintendo games are 720p/60fps and even we have some in 1080p, I have hard time imagine Nintendo making games in 900p on next console. NX will very likely be 1080p platform, at least for Nintendo games.
