Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Kimishima: More large scale 3DS game announcements coming, wants more Wii U titles like Splatoon and Mario Maker

This is making me wary of NX. It might not be that console that we all wanted but as Iwata stated, a supplement to Wii U and 3DS. I'm scared...very scared. I know Kimishima wants to appease Wii U owners but wanting large scale games takes time which means longer shelf life for Wii U and 3DS. The fact that there are un-announced 3DS/Wii U games that they haven't talked about makes me think NX isn't what we think it is or NX isn't coming out this year. I personally think it's both.

You could be right, it could some kind of hybrid singular device with some weird gimmick tied to it. When speaking about NX they almost always refer to it in a singular context too ("a console" or "the console", never "NX consoles"). I dunno.  Maybe they did plan to have more traditional Wii U/3DS successors at some point, but then changed their mind.

Don't worry too much. Not only does he conspicuously fail to give numbers for the remaining big projects - it's probably not much - but having new titles release close and even after the successors' release isn't that uncommon. One example off the top of my head: didn't Pokemon Black/White 2 release after the 3DS launched?

Yeah, Tiramisu-san.
We heard this in 2015.
We hear this in 2016.
How about, you know, announce these games already?

They could've easily extended the 3DSs life with more games. It could handle another 2 years if the releases were there.

They could but why would do that when 3DS sales are falling like a rock, even New 3DS wasn't too helpful, so why investing in new games for dying platform when you preparing new platform!?

I don't know why Nintendo is being so damn secretive about every little thing.

TOLD YOU GUYS WII U ISNT GETTING REPLACED THIS YEAR

called it

Nintendo probably has a couple of unreleased 3DS games. My bets are for Pokemon Z, retail Detective Pikachu and something for the N3DS.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'm started to wonder if Wii U is going to get replaced before the 3DS.

Maybe they can't get the power consumption for a portable form factor device to be "unifed" to a console in time .... that is harder than making a home console that just plugs into a wall (that's easy).

That is my theory, but more for power than energy consumption. Nintendo needs to pack the handheld NX with as much horsepower as they can. By releasing the homeconsole first, they gain time to tweak the handheld's specs more and to avoid creating an even more demanding home console.

Those WiiU games might come out before November because there's absolutely nothing in the second half of 2016 besides Zelda.

In theory yeah, they could go 28nm for the console processor for now for example, but maybe they are waiting for matured 14nm (or gulp, even 10nm) for a portable.

Maybe NX itself is some kind of non-traditional "console" to begin with that is portable in itself.

The 3DS could then stick around as a cheap entry level portable for a few years, it doesn't need many new games since the eShop could be expanded quickly so that it has a playable catalog of thousands of DS and 3DS games.

It's really weird that we've heard basically nothing on the 3DS successor, even the DS which was selling wwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the 3DS had it's successor already announced by about this point in its lifecycle, yet we've heard nothing on a 3DS successor. No word of dev kits, nothing, nada. NX is always described as a "console".
