Forums - Gaming Discussion - Dreamcast 2 Project Has SEGA’s Attention, “Inviting Response” from Multiple Contacts

No thanks.

SEGA needs to stay third party.

Nintendo and Sony are enough for first party Japanese devs that we need.

that's just like your opinion man. you do know tha since they got third party they also scattered the fanbase on different consoles. sega has a very big fanbase that ended up gambling which consoles would have most sega games. if they would have a console again then the so called permanent 10 million fans( who bought the dreamcast) plus newcomers would make it a good console. not like sega genesis succes but more like pious humble sega master system succes.

I don't see the point of this. As it is, Sega has to get other companies to fund releases of some of their major IP.

They should either stick to third party, or merge into a company that has the money to make the most of their games. They have great IP available, they just don't have the funds.

Sega, is a big company, and Sega, make the same or even more money than Nintendo, with Gaming, the last year was something more than 300 Millions, while Nintendo, did 355 Millions.

the Question is that if a console would bring more money to Sega ?.

I still think the best idea would be to release the Dreamcast 2 with the library of all the old Dreamcast games, but digitally. They could release 5 games per month with higher profile games around the holiday period and maybe sell it at $150 with two controllers and Soul Calibur. Also have a separate section in their online store for new games, Indies or from regular publishers. It could be a fantastic entry console for younger gamers, especially if it had a good online structure.

if you mean a dreamcast 1. i rather have that one in handheld. sega never really used the same name unless it is a revision of the same console. what i see in my wildest dream is DcGear and Sega Sammy as a console and handheld. but hey cant have it all huh

Launch something that has enough power to be able to do HD remasters of past Sega titles as well as be able to play the original versions and sell it for $150 (at a profit). I can see that selling well enough for it to be a modest financial success. Heck I might even consider it.

Make a machine that needs to sell at >$200 and there could be problems.

They are gonna kill themselves if they enter back into the console race. Especially with both Sony and MS doing far better now than with their first consoles when the Dreamcast was around.

A Dreamcast 2 or w/e Sega console that comes out now will make the WiiU look like a champion.

Obviously sony and ms are better. Wii u is less and makes profit and no loss. So wii u is a loser in battling sony and ms. But they are there to stay cause they arent losing money anf they have little to no debt. Sega could be enetering the market like a console that sells on demand. Like shipping carefully and have a decent(not big) profit and cater their permanent fans

Sega, sold Pretty well in Brazil, i think that the Master System, sold over 5 Millions of units in Brazil, and still being manufactured nowdays, if they can sell 30+ Millions, i think that already is a good come back.

A legacy console with a gd-rom and cartridge slot for all previous Genesis titles and we might go somewhere. A new consoles for new games? No

Stop focusing on that and start focusing on Vectorman, SoA, SoR and others, Sega!

They should just start making dreamcast hardware again.

Nintendo as well. I really feel like they're missing out on huge profits right now with retro being so huge. Imagine a limited run of new NES and SNES consoles sold directly through Nintendo.com. Now imagine say, Nintendo releasing reprinted, actual NES and SNES carts of those systems top 20 first party games to go with them. They'll sell out in minutes.
