Forums - Sony Discussion - The CONFUSING Combat List from Street Fighter 3D edition made me not want SFV.

Is this a joke thread?

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

A gimped (although still good version) of the console version of SFIV made you not want to tryout SFV?!

I get where you're coming from. I don't normally have problems with this in fighting games, but I can see why it could be a problem. There is no harm in letting you flip between icons (I think some fighting games do offer this). Its shouldn't be a difficult thing to implement and would only help some people. The biggest barrier to entry for any game, especially fighters is users struggling with controls, not everyone is a seasoned pro.

This goes for any game really though. Its a pain when you change button configurations and the game still uses the default in tutorials or hints.

But hoping for SFV to fail because of this is silly.

What weird symbols?

My brain actually hurts...

1. Patience is a virtue, no need to have a tantrum and act like a child because you dont understand something.
2. Being negative and wishing on others is not good for body and mind.
3. Read the instructions manual of the game more carefully.
4. If you still dont understand the manual then go on the internet and do a 10 min search, you'll find you answers very quickly.
5. 3ds or handhelds arent the best place to play fighters.

The reason for the command list being like that is because many many SF players use different control methods it being controller, pad or fight stick. Therefore in order to keep the instructions universal they set them up as symbols rather then controller buttons. For example: A/B could be punches by default but someone might want to change them to kicks.

As for the symbols....

1. The red dot with the arrow is your d pad, joystick or analog stick. The arrow is the motion you perform.
2. The fist or foot symbols represent punchs or kicks. Punches and kicks have light/medium/hard. Therefore exactly after the motion instructed from the red dot and arrow press either a punch or kick.

Hope that helps and really be patient with it. SF is not like super smash, it will take time to fully get the mechanics.

The guy just wants the buttons visible, along with the type of attack. So above the punch icon, it be with (X). Showing which one they mean. Till he memorizes them.

I hope so. If it's not, the OP has bigger problems.

I think it's like that because it's easier to transfer to different platforms.

it takes time to translate buttons, so I guess this way saves them time.

If the picture shows a rolling 1/4 circle motion forwards and a punch icon I mean is it that hard to unpause the game and press a button to see if your character punches or kicks and then do the motion and that button?

Besides that, Street fighter didn't have a command list until the psone era and by that stage it was already at Street Fighter EX+Alpha and Street Fighter Alpha 3 so I'm afraid the franchise hasn't flopped because there wasn't handholding showing how to do special moves and it is unlikely that SFV will flop because of that (it's capcom, there are plenty of ways the game could be a disaster PR wise which would kill it)

Should point out to you, 90+% of what you need to learn in street fighter is the basic attacks and how to block/tech throws and focus attacks, being able to throw a fireball won't stop someone from double perfecting you if you don't know how to block whereas you can happily knock someone around the place with nothing but fierce sweeps if someone spends a round crying about a fireball not happening.

All that aside, you seem angry at a game series which has existed for longer than you've been alive because you aren't good at it or don't know how to play it, I'm sure both you and the series would do fine to ignore each other! :D
