Forums - Website Topics - ioi's response to critics

A person can not say that someone else is jelous cause if he does, it would sound pretensious, a webmaster can not say that they are jelous cause it would also sound pretensious, so. . .

Let´s all of us say:

THEY ARE JELOUS AND THIS SITE ROCKS ! ! !

Thats what I wanted to know, thanks ioi. In another thread that someone posted somewhere else criticizing VG Chartz they had posted a link to number that had been copied down before the release of the NDP numbers for April 15 and they were wildly different than the numbers that are on their now. Obviously if you are off by a huge number and you find out about it, you are gonna fix it. I just wanted to hear your side of the story so that if I ever defend you and your site, I will know what I am talking about. Pretty much every one of their arguments against you are debunked in the about page. I guess the idea of someone trying to make something new and different is scaring them like everyone else has stated. Neogaf is one site that I just plain don't like. I hate people that are so... conservative in there way of management.

For anybody who wants to get a 100% accurate figure for how many Wii's (for example) have been sold worldwide as of today then it doesn't exist. You could probably get a 95% accurate figure if you were Nintendo, knew how many you had shipped and had good feedback from retailers.

In the U.S. and Canada, Nintendo requires all retailers to provide them with the system serial numbers at the time of sale.  So Nintendo does know how many DSes and Wiis are sold each day in those territories.  I don't think they have such a system in Europe and have no clue about what goes on in Japan.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

What're all your views on NexGenWars.com, I only found this site because everyone on that site were going on about how the Wii numbers are biased here. But aren't the 360 numbers a little biased there?

I'm a 360 fan and I can tell you that the numbers on NexGenWars.com are completly made up.

When Microsoft announces that they've shipped 10.4 million and 10.5 million was showing up on NexGenWars.com as sold, you realize that they don't even know what they're doing.

Neogaf administrators have called ioi "fantasyland" numbers and accuse the site of replicating NPD leaks with minor adjustments. What is the official response to this via ioi and vgchartz.com?

Here'as my official response though I'm not ioi: F*ck neoGAF.

Why not?  And this goes for any console. Why deny yourself of the plethora of good games out?

As a gamer, you deserve to treat yourself better than that!

Ha, I approve of this thread. GAF and VG Chartz has a bit of a history and just like all the other sites they "ban" (Kotaku, Joystiq etc etc) they are basically jealous- the admins don't want their users going elsewhere. I would take no notice, VG Chartz is growing every month and going somewhere, trying to do something innovative and different and provide a much-requested service for our users while GAF does nothing but bitch about everybody else. As shams said, in 12 months GAF will be irrelevant.

theres one thing which i would like you to do.

Since the sales numbers are posted based on data received from retailers why dont you disclose the sales distribution per store?

for instance NPD doesnt take into account the number of consoles sold at BESTBUY and WALMART.

now thats stupidity since they are discounting 100 k+ consoles per month probably.

The sales for Canada and US are also done separately.

This is in a sense misleading.

If you take the total aggregate sales of ps3 in NA in April you would reach over 120k if all stores of US and Canada are included.

So i think rather than posting AA sales fig why dont you post the sales distribution per store .

This would clear a lot of confusion.

@Larry, they dont just ignore the walmart and bestbuy stores, they simply dont collect data from them. This means they extrapolate from their current data approximately what these stores are selling. So they dont underestimate the sales of the ps3 consistently unless walmart and bestbuy consistently sell a hell of a lot of ps3s.

Neo-Gaf's colors are ever apparent to me. They ban what would neglect their traffic. Typically stupid forum goers. Not an impressive site. However, I believe if this site wishes to maintain validity it needs to substantiate itself with some serious backing by a major retailer or something of the sort. Just some easy to read (and factual) evidence of the site working. I believe that deserves to be expected.

Sometimes it hurts to go number 2.
