Forums - Politics Discussion - Is Banning Muslims From Coming to the USA Temporarily a Good Idea?

Geralt said:

After seeing what happened in France and California, Trump's proposal of temporarily banning Muslims coming to the USA isn't such a bad idea. Not that all Muslims are terrorists, but most radical terrorists are muslim. Is it really that bad to delay some people from coming to the USA for a few months-year and save potentially hundreds if not thousands of lives? Do you think Trump's idea should happen or not? I am on the fence. I could see how this could upset our muslim allies but we are at wear with radical isam.

we're at war with isis.  isis does not represent muslims. same reason why kkk does not represent christians.

It wouldn't do anything for the US. Most terrorist attacks in the US are US citizens opening fire on one another anyway.

No I think this would make the US a bigger target anyway. There are people that could simply say they're not Muslim ... then what? You think all Muslims look alike? You think someone couldn't change a name on a passport? Someone would then make it a point to specifically attack the US for this law most likely.

There's not many Muslims in the US to begin with, simply do better background checks.

Also should we consider profiling white men at areas like schools and movie theaters because they tend to be the majority of mass shooters?

Fact of the matter is in the US you have a better chance of dying of a bee sting than you do of a terrorist attack, lets also keep things in perspective here.

This is nothing but an irrational method to solve our fears. We clearly realize that it's only a small percentage of the Muslims who are committing any sort of atrocities.

Unfortunately, there are many Muslims. Even if only 1% are extremists, that's still 16 million people. And we know there's a decent amount of extremist Muslims.

No matter the answer, I find it ridiculous. Doing so will only help ISIS and their buddies to keep doing what they love to do.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

It would massively increase the chance of an attack from homegrown terrorists. You'd have to ban all of of them AND deport all the ones you already have. Which is impossible.

Forget whether it's a good idea or not. It's an unimplementable idea. You basically have to ask every non-US citizen to declare their religion at the time the arrive (from a visa waiver countries) or when they apply for a visa. And that is arguably illegal to do under US law. And of course people will lie, especially the people who would want to enter the USA to do harm.

Next to this ban Muslims from coming idea, Trump's Mexican wall idea sounds sensible and well though through.

Ah yes.. Let's all wear badges with our religion on it.. And bad boy if you are lying about it...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Trump has ever given a concrete or even solid plan as to how he'd fix our immigration issues other than "build a wall and make the Mexicans pay for it," which is so hilariously vague even for a campaign promise.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Well, in order to do so the U.S. would have to get rid of its secular nature, as discriminating based on religion is against the law.

Ban all Muslims? No, it's both implausible and impossible.

Severely restrict immigration from certain countries to the US? Much more realistic, and something we should be taking a hard look at. When you've got people from dangerous / extremist parts of the world running around the US on "student visas" completely unchecked with no way for the government to track them, you're asking for it.
