Forums - Politics Discussion - Switzerland to Vote on National Wage - Everyone Would Receive 1,700/month

It won't pass.

The Swiss vote on any proposal that receives 100,000+ signatures. This is just another one that will come and go.

So... Switzerland to become the first genuinely communist country in the world? :o

Socialist is more like it since what they're doing is income redistribution and not aiming for social or economic equality ...

No true communism has equal pay for everyone.

What they are aiming for:

Everyone will make a base income + job income, and if you have a high payed job you ll still make alot more than someone that doesnt have a job like that.

This is more like.... they super tax the high payed jobs, to boost the lower payed ones.

Basically this is like a very aggressive top tax? to boost the overall pay across a broader spectrum.

So the "avg joe" earns more (the wealthy&wellpayed will make less if this national wage thingy passes).

I completely support this proposal. I hope it gets through so we can actually see what effect this has. I expect it will drive up wage rates for shitty menial jobs as employers will have to convince people who are no longer desperate to do their shitty soul destroying work.

Great for the arts too.

I can see it working in small nations like Switzerland but not big nations like the US.

A more fair world view?

Does it make sense that some movie star can make 100's of millions of $, and some guy that works just as hard, at say McD earns next to nothing?

Sometimes theres just some people that earn more than I feel is "fair", Im not saying that everyone should earn the same or even close to that.

But Im fully for taxing the best earning of the population to help boost the lower end, to end up with a more healthy (economically) society.

I hope it passes so we can see where FULL socialism takes a European country.

It's an advanced idea that i suppose the capitalist world is not ready to embrace, but i see it happening in advanced societies. Pretty much it's how the Star trek earth society is portrayed aswell. Famine wouldn't be an issue and people would strive to better themselves.
Obviously, it would make employers lose the power of abuse, so they will always be opposed to it.

It's good to see ideas beeing thrown around though.

Friedman was a big supporter of it, though. A capitalist country can fully embrace this policy without losing its characteristics.
