Forums - Sony Discussion - I was wrong, Bloodborne is pretty good

In demon souls, you can beat one of the maneater bosses with arrows by just standing in the fog. Anyway, great that you are enjoying bloodborne. It's in multiple way different than the soul's series.

I would love to point and laugh, but I have done it too many times for it to be fun anymore. Just stop thinking a game is hard because you can't brute force through it like you can most games.

Oh and really the Maneaters are unfair because the terrain is used against you?! Yeah that's kinda the point lol. Not everything has to be hard the same way.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

I also prefer it over DS, even though I adore it.
The combat is so much more dynamic and satisfying. And the story/lore/atmosphere... Masterpiece. I really feel like it was kinda overlooked as a GOTY because of The Witcher 3, but well, TW3 is fantastic as well.

The game did get nominated for pretty much every GOTY out there, but The Witcher 3 is kind of an umbetable game so Bloodborne won just a couple of GOTYs.

I read about that but didn't want to do it

But there are enjoyable ways and others that aren't. I already referenced Orphan of Kos as an example and it can be used again, despite the large area there is still one element of the terrain you have to be wary of, the Great one in the middle that sends lightning at specific moments. Plus BB's controls are better, more refined and the performance seems more stable too. I also prefer when terrain can be used both against you and in your favor (Blood starved beast, pillars can be a much needed relief or they can be your death). Technically every design decision should have that foundation of going both ways (again in the case of the Orphan, if he screeches when close to you you can get some quick hits in before worrying about dodging the bolts) and generally it does work like that in Souls games, but again, the Maneater boss is an example of where they failed to keep that up. The only thing I saw to be taken advantage of was glitching their AI, or the method above..which is obviously not a good thing. It should be within the game's bounds.

More BB examples of switching up difficulty is Laurence (1st phase vs 2nd), or comparing Orphan of Kos/Maria/Gascgoigne with Abhorrent Beast/Darkbeast Paarl (most beasts, really, except blood starved). No need to be uncreative and put you in a tiny space, work on the bosses movesets/weaknesses/transformations instead.

Yea I really liked BloodBorne. My only issue with games like this is I always get kind of far and then I just drop it like a bad habit. Which is what I did with BloodBorne. Maybe I'll go back one day will see.

All opinion on if it is enjoyable.  I would get bored if every boss was hard the same way (The base game of Dark Souls 2 is a prime example).

Of course Bloodborne is smoother than Demon's Souls - it is 6 years newer!!!  Dark Souls was smoother than DemS afterall as well.

That's exactly what happened to me with both Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. And I don't even know why! The games were really good, I enjoyed them a lot and the difficulty was also ok. But at some point, I just stopped playing any further. I honestly can't think of any reason for it, it just happened.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I'm sure its a decent game, it's just not for me. Doesn't appeal to me at all.

I have recently gotten lords of the fallen, wich has an art style i enjoy more. If i really love it, i may think about Bloodborn/Dark souls. But for now, neither the aestethis, the gameplay nor premise appeal to me.

You can use magic.

I don't remember the name but there is a powerful fire magic that can 2 hit kill each of those Maneaters, you have to upgrade some good amount of magic and mana to be able to use that magic if you pick a melee class, but there is this option.

You can just prepare the wand and magic, enter the fog, the first will start coming running to you, wait for it to reach a good distance or go for it to make it quicker and use it, if you know the timing well you'll basically kill it right there and take no hits, then just run or roll if you are light enough, and stick to the center of the circular platform between the two bridges, recover some mana and keep and eye in the man eaters, and just use the magic behind the wall there and you can still hit them most of the time if you know the range of the magic well, if not, go around a little and lure one to start trying to hit you, make him miss and wait for your chance and cast the spell and hide behind the wall again to recover the mana.

With magic you can easily kill those two without taking a single hit and much trouble.

My build wasn't suitable for that.

They really should give you a one-time (per character/save) only respec in these games.

Bloodborne is a great game. Still, it disappointed me greatly. I love the other games in the series so much. I know BB is different, but I grew tired of the bosses (many seemed similar, others were way too easy), most areas seemed so similar, whereas DaS and DeS were extremely varied, and the combat became boring for me as well, since I was not as into the weapon options. I never felt the thrill of fighting something like Flamelurker or Bell Gargoyles or O&S, I never felt the terror of going through Latria, or the joy of exploring Shrine of Storms, and the pvp was highly disappoingtime compared to DS2. I bought a ps4 for this game. Lesson learned.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed it somewhat. Like I said, it is a great game, but I really hope that DS3 does not disappoint.
