Forums - Gaming Discussion - Do you think we will get a PS4 Slim this year?

I wish it would, but I think it has such a busy year ahead they will probably only release the slip PS4 next year (2017)

No, I don't.

Not only do I see relatively little reason for it from a market perspective... But the PS4's design is pretty incredible. It really couldn't get much smaller as a complete machine, for the time being.

People should stop believing that Sony or any other company would release a slimmer version only because the first was on bulky or ugly or fat. All they care about is to cut the costs.

Nah, not this year.

They have enough software to hold off any pricecut or slim announcement. Sales will increase or remain steady throughout the year, leaving them all the room they want for a slim/cut combo during the holidays of 2017.

It will probably hit alongside God of War 4, Final Fantasy VII and/or Infamous 4.

Yep, and every time they slim down the console it seems to have a poorer build quality (aesthetically) compared to the launch original because of it. Say if they can save just $1 on build costs, that's around $18M a year they can save. Now imagine if they can save $10 per console, the savings become substantial.

Launching PS4 Slim with FFVIIR would break every record in terms of sales

Exactly. Also the specs will be smaller and that is the primary reason they are forced to change the design and make it smaller or slimmer because if they kept the same old box, half of it would be empty.

The PS4 is already very slim. I doubt it'd make much difference. But the XB1 badly needs one...

slim isnt really about the size, so much as making it out of smaller cheaper components that have been developed, increasing profit margins or reducing consumer price when sales start to fall.

How are they going to slim the PS4 down? The thing is already as small as the PS3 Slim.

The cooler & psu will shrink again, once the chip uses half as much power as current models do (14-16nm + finFETs, will be a huge step from 28nm).

It wont get much smaller than current PS4s I think. Unless since its release, they found a more cleaver way to manage the PCB layout.

The main thing will be it ll be cheaper to produce (smaller psu & cooling unit, slightly smaller cabinet), and maybe save a bit on the chip itself.

Which will lead to a price cut.

I doubt there will be a PS4 slim in 2016, but there will definitely be a $299 price tag by the end of the year. I think the PS3 really needed one, but the PS4 doesn't really even need a slim, especially since its already small and its selling very well.

I never said or implied that R&D for a slim model even existed. I stated the opposite.

At this point you are just aruging around yourself.

I'm arguing about the fact few people have made in this thread which is Sony supposedly does not NEED slim console yet. That claim is nothing but bullshit. Slim console is only a evolution of cutting manufacting costs and for that reason it will be launched without delay. It almost sounds as some people think Slim-consoles are being made because of smaller design and that design is the main selling point when it has always been the lower price.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.
