My first 360 had this problem, All I did to open it was push up on the disc tray while hitting the eject button and that opened it up 99% of the time.
yeah I had this too on my old 360.
The tray would never open if it was closed without a disc inside. Had to use a screwdriver a few times because.... well sometimes you still forget to put a disc in lol.
Then later I "simply" swapped the disc drive with the disc drive of a RRODed 360. (it's a bit more complex than it sounds)
I have this problem on my 360. I use a plastic card like an old gift card and continuously and somewhat viciously swipe under the eject tray while pushing the open tray button until it works.
There's a built in release that you lose with a paperclip. Somebody in this thread already mentioned it but Google the official instructions. I had a problem with a 360 back in like 2007 and M$ told me how to open it to get my game out before I shipped it to them.
