Forums - Politics Discussion - Danish teen fought off her attacker - now she'll face fine. A 17-year-old girl who was physically and sexually attacked in Sønderborg will herself face charges for being in possession of Pepper spay,

But it is exactly way of thinking like that that has led to absurdity that a woman gets fined for self defense.

She didn't get fined for defending herself. She got fined for owning something illegal. And it wasn't even a big fine. Don't twist this into making it look like the justice system is defending the rapist because it's not. When he is found he will go to prison.

European and scandinavian countries are overall a lot safer than the USA. I found a statistic for murder, denmark has 0.8 murder per 100K people and year, the US has 4.7. In Denmark pepper spray is illegal, in the US even guns are legal. So self-defense is clearly overrated.

The real scandal is, that the police in the area is understaffed.

This. So much this.

I get that pepper spray can cause some permanent damage to the eyes, but come on, she was about to get raped. She was defending herself and anything goes. She did what anyone would do in this situation. Damn these governments. Next thing, they'll make it illegal to defend yourself from a sexual attack.

The issue isn't that she defended herself. She isn't (at least to the best of my knowledge) being brought up on assault charges. The issue is she was in possession of something she isn't aloud to have, so naturally their are repercussions. In essence she is being fined for something she did prior to the attack, not during it. The attack just happened to real the existence of the thing she isn't supposed to have.

It sucks that she has to deal with this after what she went through, but outside of a debate over whether the ban on pepper spray should exist or not, there shouldn't be anything controversial about the fine (assuming she actually get the fine at all).

Why exactly is pepper spray illegal in the first place? How many violent crimes are commited with pepper spray in places it is legal? What exactly does the Danish government recommend a woman to do if she is being raped/assaulted and nobody is around?

I hope the guy is forever blinded, then the fine would be worth it. If it was a refugee they can kick him out too.

You dont have to think long to see that if peperspray becomes legal to carry.. alot of girls and boys will have it.. And it will not just (I bet in very few cases) be used to try spraying a rappist away.. but as an attackweapon when they (we) are drunk.. angry or blinded by jealousy.

So the top reason why peperspray is illigal.. it is seen as a weapon..

And where should we stop.. if pepersprays was legal.. there will still be rapes.. then some wants stunners or guns.. using the same agument.

First.. The daninsh goverment don't "recommend" any.. thats up the the police/healtsystem who has nothing to do with the goverment.. :)

But I think the recommendation is to sceam for help.. and try to get free.. And if the man is to strong/evil.. "wait" it out and call police after.

Wait, what?

The police system and health care system are publically owned. They are part of the government.

Honestly, the suggestion that people should just wait it out and call police after makes me want to vomit.

They are part of the state.. not the government.. they do not decide what the recommendation for things are.. thats up to the people in that specific sector (in this case police and healtsystem)

(I did not read that "recommendation" anywhere.. but I think that is what it says)

Calling/screaming for help and try to get free is offcourse first "recommendation"

If that not work and the rappist are to strong and "evil" (mayby hit her hard in the head everytime she screams) I think the "official recommendation" is to call help after the rape.

But you say "makes me want to vomit".. So You must have some better "recommendation"..  So what do you think a girl shall do if she is being attacked?

I ask becourse I have a 19 year old daugter.. and if you have some better tips.. I would very much hear them.
