Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft FY2016-Q2. Revenue $23.8 bn, Op Income $6.0 bn, Net profit $5.0 bn. Beating expectations AGAIN.

Its funny that they decided to lose out on revenue on Xbox One hardware for other revenue. Which is why I think Sony realized price cuts can be the smarter move. The attach rate and online fees definitely make more profit then hardware does.

I think Sony did the price cut because they could and are able to still make money with the console. I honestly don't even think Sony is competing with MS at this point anymore. No matter what happens from here on out they won. Last gen xbox had like an 18 million lead over Sony in the US there is no chance of that happening anymore so they've won even if they end up behind MS in the US by a million or two. Sony at this point is pretty much on fire and just needs to concentrate on releasing exclusives and making sure they don't lose anything to big. Was really shocked Xbox let SFV be exlusive to Sony honestly.

It'd be nice if MS would ever let us know, how many X1's have been sold to consumers, instead of this guessing game.

At this point it would just be nice if they gave shipped numbers. Even if it was 360/XB1 combined.

That seems to be true at this point in time. But there is some sort of spreadsheeting going on to maximize profits.

MS took the blow to hardware as they now realize they will not sell double their competition, and instead are incentivizing people to buy early and spend money on Xbox Live and software.

While for Sony they can still profit a lot from hardware at the cost of small % of marketshare.

Great results. Shame that foreign exchange rates are raining on MS's parade though.

Windows 10 is a big fail (numbers)

wtf? these are amazing numbers, they didn't just beat expectations, they absolutely creamed them. The only negative has been phone sales.

I really didn't expect office 356 to be this big of a hit.

Really? That's odd. It will be huge in enterprise and it works seamlessly with Dynamics and Sharepoint.

Free alternatives were rising in popularity, but I guess Office is Office

office isn't just office though in this instance and there aren't any free alternatives that really compete with o365. o365 isn't just an office suite, it has dynamics, sharepoint, yammer, skype, rights management, exchange, powerbi, delve, onedrive etc etc all integrated. If it was just the office suite then yeah there are free alternatives that are almost as good or at least good enough.

Nothing new here. MS as a whole is very healthy. Still no information regarding how good xb1 is doing.

Great quarter for Microsoft.
