Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One from a PlayStation Fan Point of View

As a big Sony Pony
Well I think it's design is a tad ugly. As for the controller, I have always considered Xbox controllers to be far superior to dualshocks. DRM was a bad idea but they corrected it, so no problem there. Kinect was a big failure because they didn't have a kinect-free console to begin with, and afterwards they really kinda ditched the focus on it (angering a few devs) which I think is too bad; because I consider Kinect to be pretty cool.
Philatio Spencer is a damn good leader though, and the state of Xbox One right now is the best it has been, and it will only continue to improve. They got their Forza AND a Horizon before I got my Gran Turismo (CURSE THEM), they got RoTR (me sad) and they have Halo 5 on top of all the multiplats like Witcher and Fallout - so games are definitely a strong point.
From what I have seen customer support and consumer relations are pretty damn good, considering how much they listened to consumers in the beginning and have continued to do so.
All in all, a great console for anyone to choose

i like systems that dont attack your dashboard with spam and that dont require you to install games and waste a bunch of space on your hard drive and have free online and stuff. systems like that are good.

Well the Wii U was made for you.

Anyhow, I like games. I really like the games MS puts on their machines. So... I like Xbox. It doesn't really go beyond that for me.

I also like what Nintendo and Sony does, so I have their machines as well.

Yep, it's really just that simple. MS puts out more games I enjoy, and have since last gen, so I tend to flock there more. The only company you could call me a fanboy of is Sega, and they are dead.

Doesn't hurt that I highly prefer the Xbone controller and UI, plus the superior network. My Xbox should arrive back from MS repair tomorrow (I think Fallout killed it) and the biggest thing I have noticed while putting more time on my PS4 is how horrid the voice quality is in almost every game, something they didn't fix from PS3.

But every console this gen has been worth owning, so I own them all.

At first ps4 was a sure thing because I had an excellent experience with PS3. When MS announced the xb1, I didn't agree with their policies because it affected me in multiple way such as buying games used as well as doing with the game whatever I want. I also knew that my time with an Internet conection was temporal because I didn't have a stable job at the time. When they change their policies, I still didn't trust them and always felt that once they had their customer back, they would continue with their original vision. Nowadays, I am considering one because I know they won't dare to do it again this gen due to the huge gap ps4 has over it but I have to admit that I am still scare that if they become dominant in the console space, they might try to do it again so I rather see them profitable but not dominant. Since I know this gem is over, I am thinking getting one after 2 years plus having phill as the head of Xbox gives me a sense of relief. This also comes from a guy that had 2 xb360 last gen.

Well, I think XB1 is fine. Actually, it's a good console... the only thing that turns me off is the fact that many of its exclusives are becoming available on PC. I mean, if you already have a PS4, or a PC, there's not much reason to buy a XB1. But if you don't own any of them, then it's definitely a good pick.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

As someone who has spent 70%+ of my gaming time on PC, Xbox One does not appeal to me. I had the OG Xbox and it was awesome, with a varied library and interesting exclusives. 360 looked to continue that trend with Gears and the exclusive JRPGs looked great. But both of my 360s both broke, they lost all of their JRPGs, they stopped coming out with good games. End of 360 life was dreadful, with only Halo 4 as notable. Then they had the nerve to announce the original Xbox One, so I have now dropped Xbox from my to buy lists. Lately on Xbox One they have not come out with very interesting games aside from Sunset Overdrive, but that is Insomniac not MS. I usually buy every console but, it looks like I am going to have to skip out.

I still see the XBOX One has having an identity crisis. The 360 was meant to be a streamlined gamer's device with excellent support and industry-leading networking. It was the social gamers console. However now it is just flat out a worse PS4.

-Worse Social Features
-Worse Sharing
-Worse hardware
-Less games
-Worse Online
***Same price as PS4!
***Their interface is less gamer focused and displays adds.

I really think they need to evaluate what their direction is going to be next gen. At least at launch the console was the family-media console that Dad can also use to play Gears on the weekend. Now it doesn't even have that...

Im not really in the mood to argue, I will just say those points are all irrelevant on why X1 is my preferred platform.

Xbox has something PS4 kinda lacks, fun exclusives. Im not having a bad time with PS4 exclusives. They just leave me feeling... meh.

Its almost like MS primary focus is fun. While Sony likes making pretty games with stories. I guess thats why Sony is in the movie business.

I've been a PlayStation fan since the original PlayStation came out.

I never had the original Xbox, but bought a 360. I primarily got it for Halo, Crackdown, Gears and that glorious old school JRPG, BLUE DRAGON. Anywho, about half way into my first game I got the RRoD. It wasn't a huge deal, because they had that warranty. But, the second and THIRD time I got the RRoD, it no longer was on warranty, so I just didn't bother getting it fixed the third time. At that time, I think the only exclusives I missed out on were Halo 4 and Gears Judgement.

So, my lame 360 experience, and the gross lack of ACTUAL exclusives, are why I have yet to pick up an Xbox One. Though I admit I would love to play Sunset Overdrive, Ori and ReCore.

Fun exclusives.   TLOU, Bloodborne, InFamous, Until Dawn, and about a dozen other games all say "Hi".  Look these don''t have to be your favorite games, but imo they are enough to say that 90% of gamers won't have worse games to play on PS4.  And when it comes to 3rd party games, it is laughable.

I am really curious about what this "fun" is though.  Halo and Gears are old news, so besides Sunset (Which is only above average) I cannot think of anything else.  TitanFall and Tombraider are not exclusives btw ;)

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

To me the X1 will always be a mediocre gaming console that will run game less effectively than the PS4 in most cases, but will offer great multi media functionality. The library is decent and they offer enough to justify choosing it, but in my experience every good game the X1 has to offer is countered by another good game on PS4 (even though audiences can differ in some times of the year). Top that off with the PS4 having more to offer in terms of quality games, gaming features, and gaming performance and it is no wonder that it is still in second place (especially when they like to go 3/4 of the year with no exclusive games).

It is an ok console, and those who pick it have their reasons. However having been able to compare the two, the X1 seems to be a console I own just to play exclusives when they actually do finally release while my PS4 remains my primary gaming platform overall.

From a PlayStation fan's perspective (who doesn't care a whole lot for FPS, and even less for racing):

  • Holiday 2013: XB1 started off as an expensive hot mess, with less horsepower, some ugly western exclusives, a required and expensive peripheral with little gaming value, and connectivity with something I haven't used in years (cable TV). Considering the cheaper & more powerful alternative (one bound to get more Japanese and diverse 1st party support)...the only reason I could think to buy in was if you cared about your Gamerscore.
  • Pre-Holiday 2014: Titanfall looked neat, but both shallow and too fast-moving for my taste (or stomach) in an FPS.  The required peripheral got the axe, as did the pricetag. At this point, a few of the cons had been removed from the system, but no new selling points were introduced.
  • Holiday 2014: A collection of older Halo titles and Sunset Overdrive, aka a collection of titles that didn't get me to buy a 360 and a Ratchet & Clank-looking title without the charm of that series. Even with the system being marked down extensively, I found it better to invest my gaming money in more games.
  • Pre-Holiday 2015: Well, not much to talk about here. Only title of interest to hit the XB1 was Ori, and, well...I got it and played it on my elderly PC. Oh, there was that collection of old games; considering the only ones in that package I care for I emulate on my aforementioned elderly PC...
  • Holiday 2015: This consisted of a timed exclusive, more Halo, and backwards compatibility with a system I didn't own. It felt like a punchline to a joke of a year, honestly. At this point there is no baked-in price advantage, and for me (and I imagine for many others), most friends are playing on PS4.
So...I dunno, it all seems kind of pointless to me, both from the standpoint of a PS4 owner and from the presumed standpoint of someone looking to jump into 8th gen. The XB1 is not a bad device, just a redundant one with very few selling points - cable TV, gamerscore, and the continuation of three franchises.
