The stronger power wouldn't affect third party either since most of them either don't know how to make games that look that good because PS4/X1 can't handle them or simply don't support Nintendo... Waiting for 2017 would make for another major factor: PS4 and X1's install bases would grow A LOT, and I'm shure Nintendo aims to get an NX in the house of those people instead of releasing a new console on a market with a 70M PS4 and a 40/50M X1 ... |
I'm just gonna sit here and go really? That argument doesn't make much sense no matter how you put it, also the word is SURE. The reason a 2017 release makes more sense to me is because of the first party pipeline more than anything else. Anyway I'm not in any camp as it is, if they release in 2016 they better have a line up ready with multiple games per month from first party and I don't think that's possible by the end of the year if its a home console. Droughts killed the Wii U more than anything else and if they decided to launch into a situation that might put them into that position then the next console will fail as well.

Thx, fixed the sure;
Soooo tell me about which Nintendo teams are currently working on 3DS projects, and to extend that, tell me how many have been in the last few months, the last that come to my mind are those who made Happy Home Designer and Triforce Heroes (which both re-used previous engines) and as minor releases Nintendo Badge Arcade and Boxboy! 2 ... The development divisions are now merged, meaning that whatever you would expect to get from 3DS and from Wii U will now be found on the same platform (of course supposing that the NX is the fusion console that everyone pictures it beeing), that is likely to be enough to cancel any major drought. You don't have to think that ALL games need multiple years of development, just look at Splatoon, the game was made in about a year and a half, and the developers had to make it from the scratch since it was a new IP, plus, even if all games were to be playable on both NX consoles, I'm shure that some of them would focus more on one of them so that fans that are used to this formula start embracing the fusion...

In fact, even if it comes out in 2017, I'm going to take a long wait and see approach to the NX, like how I do when a new Windows OS comes out. I really don't like the direction the Wii U went, and if they continue this hybrid handheld/home console, I may just wait and buy one used down the road when another Zelda game comes out. |
"major chunk" : The 3DS owners are extremely satisfied by the library of the console and they'll still be getting a few more before NX lands on the market (with some Major releases such as Pokémon Z, FE Fates, Final Fantasy, Bravely Second etc.). For the Wii U I agree that some of the fans might cause some arguments but by the end of this year the Wii U didn't really miss out on a lot of stuff, shure, a lot of IPs aren't there, but there are a lot new ones aswell, the first party output was around 4 or 5 titles under the average from Nintendo consoles by the end of last year iirc and that will be fixed when Zelda U, Pokkén, TPHD, Star Fox are released...

Developers can handle making games to higher specifications... see PC
I understand why you think this way but that's not how it works. People buy consoles for the experience... for the games. I don't really think that there are such things as fanbases because there is no shame in enjoying a game from any system because you're enjoying it. I wouldn't worry about what Microsoft and Sony do because Nintendo has differentiated itself from them the past decade. If they put out a product people want and market it better than the Wii U they will be profitable and highly successful.

The PC developers are those who I list as "don't support Nintendo". Nintendo showed that they can make amazing games with lower specs so why bothering making the console work on 2k, will some third party jump on it saying "I'm gona make a game exclusively for NX because it supports 2k graphics" ? I don't think so... Don't get me wrong, I don't want them to make a PS4 clone, but I want them to keep in mind the pricecut, If the device will need more horsepower, then they'll release those additional boxes that they patented, but if not they're good to go until PS5/X2 release...
Differenciating from Microsoft and Sony showed with time of beeing a double edged sword, you can outsell the competition like you did with the Wii, but you can also fail as hard as they did with the Wii U.
