Forums - Nintendo Discussion - To those who say NX isn't coming this year

If the NX were to come out this year it would mean that Nintendo chose to throw in the towel. Get ready for a Wii 2.2 with some gimmick thrown in for seasoning. 900p, less powerful than PS4, and no dev support.

And what would mean releasing in 2017?

Wow, I guess I'm not allowed to answer. Guess I'll see myself out the thread...

...

...

...Personally, I am kind of expecting it, but my reaction would be "Oh gosh, please let it have a good launch lineup..."

More powerful and potentially more developer support. The Wii U was basically a more powerful Wii which was a more powerful GameCube. If NX comes out this year get ready for a more powerful Wii U.

At this point it feels like a lot people who are claiming 2017 as the NX release date would feel satisfied and vindicated if Nintendo released any version of it on Jan 1, 2017 at 12:01am but feel like Nintendo made the worst mistake of all time if they released it on Dec 31, 2016 at 11:59pm.

I personally don't have much of a stake in it, as I'm not currently planning to buy it, and I'm not confident enough in either outcome to make a bet or any other kind of commitment.

I'm ambivalent, but curious.

If nx is a home console and they launched it in 2016, I would say, "That's asinine of nintendo to launch a next gen console when this gen isn't even past the halfway point."

The better question would be "what happens if it turns out to be a 2017 release?"

I can't say because honestly I don't care if it comes this year or the next one, that feeling will change when the console is revealed

Truth be told, the GCN was the last truly original architecture Nintendo produced. It seems weird to that, simply because Nintendo has boasted so emphatically about how "original" both the Wii and Wii U were. That may be true in terms of adding a new gameplay mechanic. In terms of building a next generation console from the ground up... not so much.

They've been essentially adding "Expansion Paks" to the GCN for the last two generations. Up until that point, each of their consoles had been total game-changers in terms of graphics and performance.

SIDE NOTE: That may have something to do with the fact that, while I still love Nintendo, I was totally smitten with everything they did until the Christmas of 2005. Those of you who were there, and were Nintendo fanatics at the time, will never forget.

The hysteria on this board over this topic has become so illogical that you're pretty much spot on.

It's much important to them that the Wii U hit some arbitrary, imaginary deadline so they can save face on a message board instead of enjoying a new piece of hardware.
