The PSP is easily one of the worst handhelds (my opinion). It made playing Peace Walker (already a mediocre game) even worse.

I agree, until I discovered how amazing was that console for emulation and that stuff, it was getting dust for years, and one thing I really dislike is the amount of games that ran at 20fps, I found that very umpleasant.

I tried the PSP for emulation but I found the PC to be a lot better in that regard. You can emulate more systems on it and have access to better controller options.

Of course, but to emulate Snes/GBA/Genesis games on the go it was great, and also you can play your ps1 games on it without emulation, you have to convert the ISO into an Eboot and most of them run really well, even better than in PC emulators since it has less errors specially in video scenes.

For those that haven't spent time with a PSP: Try it. It's seriously a great handheld with a lot of quality title diversity and even outside of modding, very solid PS1 support, though with modding, you go from PSN only PS1 games to every PS1 game.

Now is it the best console ever? Considering how ridiculously subjective that is, proven by this thread to this point alone, I won't even bother trying to answer. Let's just leave it at that it's a top notch handheld that is still somehow underrated despite selling 80m units worldwide while getting substantial first and third party support. The God of War games are still some of my favorite handheld titles, Ys 7 taught me how to love again, Kingdom Hearts: BBS was not only the best handheld KH, but one of the best KH games period, and more. It was a seriously solid handheld in so many ways, and hacking it just made it that much better.

For a long time, the PSP really was the go to emulation device for on-the-go as well considering how well it could handle so many retro systems. Even now, it is still one of the best price to performance devices out there for emulation that has built in controls.

And yes, I've owned a GBA, a DS, a PSP, a PSV, and a 3DS, and I easily rank the PSP at the top of the stack. For me, it goes:

1) PSP
2) DS
3) GBA
4) PSV (I love it, but just so much squandered potential)
5) 3DS

I don't use portable console "on the go" (as weird as it sounds) so I don't enjoy that perk. I give you that, PS1 games on the PSP is nice! But now that I have a PS2 available I can burn the iso to a CD and just play them on it.

Conclusion: PSP sucks.

PS vita is a much better system..... BC with most psp games, and way better controls/loading times

I wouldn't really know. I was interested in the vita a few years ago but then it hasn't been getting a lot of exclusive support. Most games I wanna play on the vita can be played on my ps3.

It does not suck. The exclusives are top notch, and it had good third party support.

For a period in 2009-2010, I'd agree with you. I used it for every thing. Mine hasn't been touched in maybe a year but the games, the movies, the music, the comics, etc. provided me with so much entertainment. Until I got a smart phone, it was probably my primary source of fun.

Didn't know Resident Evil was available for it, though....

I think PSP is great Gaming Device and definitely one of the bests handhelds ever, but Best Gaming Device Ever!? I dont think so.

In some ways, yes, especially in the west, if you are into Japanese games. Why? Because it has so many hidden gems,m that IMO no other system managed to gather.

I would still give the crown to the PS1/2/3 by a small margin, but for handhelds, it edges out the GBA for me

EDIT: I forgott to add the SNES, NES and X360, as objectively better systems.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

M y favourite handheld but not the best gaming device ever

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
