The only reason I can't dismiss this is the possibility (maybe small but there) the Minecraft effect might set in with this game.

No, and i'm not even sure that this game is gonna be all that big. What if people just want to play minecraft instead, the one all their friends are already playing? The way i see it the DQ fans are the ones that will get in at launch and early on and it doesn't look like that is happening in large numbers. Then the legs will depend on minecraft fans switching over, probably from word of mouth/youtube.
If it becomes like mincraft and splatoon where all your friends are playing it so you have to as well and it has excellent legs then it will sell pretty well, but nowhere near about 3 other games this year even then.

Yet minecraft didn't come close to number 1 last year. We have YW3, do we thinkthis game is a potential 3mil+ seller? Like others have said there is also FFXV and MH (does it matter if not announced yet) and we also have pokemon.

DQ:B has to pass 1mil first. It needs splatoon legs to even have a chance, i think DQ Heroes FW was well over 600k, this isnt even half of that :0

Anyway, Final Fantasy XV presumably releases this year, so we already know of one game that is going to sell more than 1m copies. Dragon Quest Builders has a good chance to have good legs, but beating a mainline Final Fantasy game will still be a tall order. It would need to have great legs after a good launch. I think it's very unlikely, but the draw of Minecraft shouldn't be underestimated, so I don't rule it out completely.

Nah, Yokai Watch 3 will be. Even its spin offs sell amazingly well.
