Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSVR is NOT its own gaming device or a 2nd system!!!.

Quick question. Does anyone know if we can play on PSVR (or any of the VR units) without having it plugged into a TV/monitor? If so that would be a great addition! So we could get a PS4 and PSVR with no need for an additional screen if we choose?

Seems like it would be pretty doable aside from the coop couch functionality of a few games. But traditional games could by default be projected in VR cinema mode and everything else in normal VR mode. So no need for a TV!

If I was Sony I would be working on adding this functionality to the current system set up. VR would be seen as more of a replacement for the traditional screen than an attachment (a replacement for the traditional TV with special functionality). And space wise we could move the PS4 almost anywhere in the house without having to compete for screen time/space.

Let it go. Jesus. It does not add anything to PS4 games, it is a gaming system in its own right, runs VR games, but requires the PS4 to run. What is so difficult to understand?

Sony:

SCE America CEO Shawn Layden suggested as much in a recent interview with Forbes. “VR for us, it’s not a peripheral,” Layden said. “It’s not a, ‘here’s the latest way to interact with the game’ thing. It’s a platform. It has the ability to impact gaming the same way that smart phones [changed] cell phones… before it was ‘I can talk to a person, I can text a person, what more do I need?’ But then the smart phone came out and it’s like, wow, I can do all that in my hand? I think Morpheus is going to have a similar impact on gaming or entertainment consumption.”

End of discussion.

If we need a TV, to run Playstation 4 games, this means that Playstation 4, cannot run their own games ?, Playstation VR, is a game system that will have his own games but will only run with Playstation 4, just like Oculus Rift, is a gaming plataform and will only run with PC.

That doesn't make videogames add ons to the TV but it does make the psvr a ps4 add on.

That's a cool picture, why not state a few reason why you object or why he is wrong, you know, why not doing something to create a healthy discussion for once?

Do for once something I do all the time?

"it is a gaming system in its own right, runs VR games, but requires the PS4 to run"

Do you not see the clear contradition in that statement?

Unless people are saying you don't need a PS4, i'd just assume they were speaking in the same context Sony is.

If you look to PSVitas post below yours i think you can see thats not the case. If it was then the wouldnt really be much need for this thread.

I can see your point, but unless OneKartVita isn't aware it requires a PS4, i don't see why we'd assume he's isn't talking in the same context as Sony ('How i shall treat it' > 'What it literally is').

Yes sir,  I'm aware it requires a PS4. It's actually great having two consoles connected like that.  Keeping everything in the one eco system for me.

So for the guys who can see beyond marketing talk we all know that "Sony" tried to claim that PSVR is being seen as its own gaming device.

Not really a problem since im sure what they meant is that they will support it, but some sony fans have ran with this and are trying to use it to say that "PSVR "is" really its own gaming system".. O_O ........

Fact is the PSVR is no more of a gaming system then your TV... you put the game into your PS4 and the game is displayed on the VR unit. You turn of the VR unit the game is still displayed on your TV..... The PSVR does not play its own games and it cant be used without the PS4 so its a VR add on for the PS4 not its own gaming system!!.

So like i was saying what it is and what every VR Device can be seen as, is an add on that adds to the experience you can already get and make some experience's more real and better and some worse (Cant really see myself playing many 3rd person action games or Beat em ups etc in VR). Sonys marketing talk cant change facts!.And how people can run with this and claim that PSVR is its own gaming Device is beyond me.

So what say the rest of you guys?, do you buy into the whole "Its its own gaming device" thing or do you see past the marketing talk??.

If you do see it as its own device please explain why you think so..

So it's a goddamned monitor.

Mystery solved.

We can all go home now.
