Forums - Gaming Discussion - PSVR is NOT its own gaming device or a 2nd system!!!.

Let it go. Jesus. It does not add anything to PS4 games, it is a gaming system in its own right, runs VR games, but requires the PS4 to run. What is so difficult to understand?

Sony:

SCE America CEO Shawn Layden suggested as much in a recent interview with Forbes. “VR for us, it’s not a peripheral,” Layden said. “It’s not a, ‘here’s the latest way to interact with the game’ thing. It’s a platform. It has the ability to impact gaming the same way that smart phones [changed] cell phones… before it was ‘I can talk to a person, I can text a person, what more do I need?’ But then the smart phone came out and it’s like, wow, I can do all that in my hand? I think Morpheus is going to have a similar impact on gaming or entertainment consumption.”

End of discussion.

If we need a TV, to run Playstation 4 games, this means that Playstation 4, cannot run their own games ?, Playstation VR, is a game system that will have his own games but will only run with Playstation 4, just like Oculus Rift, is a gaming plataform and will only run with PC.

I suggest you use your OP as a wall of shame. Everyone who believes it will have his name listed.

Well, your name would come off the list if you changed your opinion. That's fair play.

I'm not going to change an opinion based on fact.

So you really believe that Kinect is its own gaming device?

No, Kinect is a peripheral just like the MOVE.

Can I use a PSVR with other device, like a PC?

Sod this, I'm off to watch a movie on my Blu-ray peripheral.

It's what I would call a nested doll system, or a system within a system, very similar to the Sega CD & 32X. What differentiates these types of expansions with regular peripherals is how much with/without overlap exists within the games.

On one hand you have the Sega CD / 32X type expansions, where games designed for them absolutely will not work without the expansion.
On the other hand, you've got PS Move and Kinect peripherals, where more often than not they are used as optional gimmicks in games that work just fine without them.

Unless there's going to be significant amount of games that can be playable with and without PSVR (as in, one copy of a game, not a 'regular version' and a separately sold 'PSVR version'), it is effectively a system within a system. Putting it in the same category as an accessory like the PS Camera or an entirely separate system like the Vita is a little disingenuous. Very neckbeard nerd level pedantic, but we are on a board specifically talking about video games.

It's a new platform in the same sense that a blu-ray drive would be a new platform for a pc that already has a dvd drive. It's going to have its own content. A similar but not quite as good example would be the New 3DS.
