I agree it should be sfw. When i have time in schools i usually hide my phone while checking this site.

You saying that seems quite ironic given your current sig

His sig is a recent one I blocked with Adblocker lol. Basically people are just complaining, if they get caught at work. It just be easier to block the images locally. Then to enforce really dumb restrictions on the whole site. Because I think jason1637 sig is annoying. But someone out there thinks is funny/sexy. It shouldn't really be blocked. It doens't violate anything. Unless showing any type of skin is "wrong".

I wouldn't go that far to say my sig is nsfw.

Well, what I think is having a more strict website in terms of sigs and avatars makes it less fun. Heck many websites including sites like neogaf have avatars that are just like the ones from vgc if not worse and that site has game devs and etc. The best solution is to have an option to disable avatars and sigs either instead of being more strict. I personally dont think vgc is in nsfw but rather in the gray area since I do access the site from work at times and making it less fun = zzz

More or less how I see this site, my last sig was apparently nsfw and then I was reminded of this little nugget:

Also different people on here clearly have different views on what is and isn't sfw and what I feel we're getting is some people who have the tightest view of what is nsfw trying to dictate those who see things differently, that's not how any communtiy should work tbh, otherwise levarage has to be made if you want the other side to bow to your ways.

Also I wouldn't advise anyone on ehre who thinks this site isn't sfw to visit Destructoid, shield your innocent eyes from those suggestive gifs lest they melt in embarrassment.

I would totally suggest an option to disable avatars and sigs though, both parties win in that scenario and the others who have theirs blocked don't have to be slapped around each time they want to change their avatar (like it or not that's how it feels).

For the record I don't browse any sites when I'm at work because Im supposed to be working and when I have my breaks I read the newspaper, talk to friends/co-workers, go out and get a bite indoors or out, watch the TV or if my break is long enough, go home and watch tv or browse. You can do a lot more during your work rbeaks than having to always come to this one site on the dot at every break.

Pretty much. Like heck, I got my original name removed from this site (Jizz_Beard_thePirate) cause apperently... It was too lewd... Meanwhile, a professional* tech site that I have been visiting and commenting on for years called Engadget with wayyyy more userbase than vgc perfectly allows it... I am well aware vgc is not Engadget but vgc should be open to the way that othersites handles it so that vgc can be more fun which leads to more users joining and being active.

I think making sites totally sfw discourages many people to be active or even join. For example, if I came to this site the first time and I had my avatar/sig/name removed even though they were perfectly acceptable in other sites I have been to, then I wouldn't come back again. Now of course, this has to be within reason, if my avatar was miss slutty mcwhore with her award winning anal position, then it has to get removed but if its in the gray area, then it should be fine for the most part imo.

*Some of the articles are nonsense but you get the idea

I don't think there's been too many problems with NSFW content here. There are a few avatars that seem out of place, but then again, even cosplay often contains content you might not want others to see (i.e. a lot of bare skin), and I don't think banning cosplay from the site would be appropriate at all. It's a bit problematic but sounds like a pain to moderate without being too harsh about it.

Keep in my I have sigs disabled though, so obviously this completely ignores them. (Last I checked, they were huge and distracting. I just checked again, and the situation seemed a lot better, but it's still pretty bad. I don't like gifs in sigs, and I especially don't like the height of some sigs.)

BTW, thanks for the tips about precise time stamps! Since most threads here have relatively short lifetimes, I never found the lack of precise timestamps a problem, but it's better this way. My favourite though? Imprecise timestamps that reveal the precise timestamp when hovered over. Obviously it's not a mobile-friendly solution, but it would be a nice addition to the current imprecise format. ;)

Teeqoz,

This is an area that has slipped a bit over the years. We need to have a serious discussion about what kind of forum we want to be and operate accordingly. My personal opinion is that we should be SFW.

I've edited things to make them more SFW and have only received negative feedback. It's difficult to get a true community view on this because it's not like people will notice that you edited something and write to you to say thanks.

I guess you're right, this really needs to be discussed as it may or may not change the way the site/mindset operates. I guess I'd prefer it to be SFW too, but nothing exaggerated, of course.

----------------

Personally, I don't really mind don't avatars/sigs, but it's really not that SFW. I only access VGChartz when I'm alone for this reason.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I do my part by having a great avatar and best sig on the site.

I do have sigs disabled though but sometimes browsing on phone i get subjected to them.

You don't have a sig...

The best sigs are no sigs.

Honestly it's a real issue and the fact that we get this type of thread once a year should tell you something.

I've been visiting vgc for about 6 years now and I see this brought up all the time. Then the mods tend to force some people to change their avi's/signatures, then people start using nsfw pictures again, and then we wait for another year for the annual "is vgc sfw" thread when the mods take action again.

As I've mentioned before, the rules are as good as their enforcement. You want a site with NSFW content? That's fine. But if the rules state that they are not allowed, you should simply not allow them.

I get that a lot of guys like boobs, but is it really necessary to use gifs as sigs with huge boobs that defy physics? I mean, save that for yourself or something. I, personally, have a problem with such content and not just boobs.

When I work at the library and use one of the desktops there, I'm not gonna log in to my account (it's not safe) to disable sigs and such. The NSFW content should simply be removed or completely allowed. Make up your mind and whatever you decide stick with it and change the rules accordingly. And when it's enforced, please enforce it across the board.

@jason1637
Sorry, dude, but that's certainly NSFW.

It kind of bugs me that the solution is as simple as turning off images but the response to that seems to be, "no, I don't want to make that effort, it's easier for me to meet my needs by making everyone else conform to an incredibly nebulous standard."
