Forums - Website Topics - Is this website actually SFW?

Is a forum about videogames and anime ever SFW? I mean I have a new job now and I know that I will definitely not let my coworkers and superiors see that I'm using a site called vgchartz.

People get so hung up on the work part here. How about these: "Is this website too lewd for public browsing?", or "Is this website actually SFSB (Safe For School Breaks)?", "Is this website SFW (safe for wife)"?

NSFW is a figure of speech, people. It means any situation where you wouldn't want somebody to see you looking at websites with pictures of boobs.

Also, don't take boobs literally, it's an example.

Finally, please don't be difficult for the sake of being difficult.

Thank you!

Why isn't turning off avatars and sigs enough? Is it because when you do. You want it on, at home. And don't want to keep switching the settings. Would it be possible to make that setting be browser/location specific?

For starters, you can't turn off avatars. Secondly, it shouldn't really be the responsibility of those that want a SFW site to adapt to those who don't know/care about the rules about NSFW content on this site. Thirdly, that still leaves the problem of NSFW content in posts.

If people don't want this site to be SFW, fine, but that's something that will have to be discussed, but as of now, that's what the rules are, however little they are enforced.

You could disable images on certain websites. With adblock/noscript, as an example. To deal with the issue. A couple of people in the past had these really huge GIFs here. I don't want to turn of sigs. So I just added the gif to the adblock list.

It's not, in any case. It's as lewd as going into the BBC webpage from a computer in school that happens to have some viruses in it and shows some pornographic pops-up. You get caught there and you might have to do some explaining, but the same goes for VGC, as the rest of the site is perfectly fine.

I agree it should be sfw. When i have time in schools i usually hide my phone while checking this site.

LOL, happened to me once with my lecturer staring at my screen, fortunately she believed me it wasn't intentional.

Wait, can't you turn off graphics on webpages on most devices? That seems a much better option for the small amount of users who are afraid of their internet being seen than to police the entire community with wildly varying standards from each moderator.

If you're in a position where you need to be careful then you should be careful.

You shouldn't be on this site while at work or school anyways!

I don't know, maybe I'm desensitized to them because I don't really see any that step over the line.

Well, what I think is having a more strict website in terms of sigs and avatars makes it less fun. Heck many websites including sites like neogaf have avatars that are just like the ones from vgc if not worse and that site has game devs and etc. The best solution is to have an option to disable avatars and sigs either instead of being more strict. I personally dont think vgc is in nsfw but rather in the gray area since I do access the site from work at times and making it less fun = zzz

More or less how I see this site, my last sig was apparently nsfw and then I was reminded of this little nugget:

Also different people on here clearly have different views on what is and isn't sfw and what I feel we're getting is some people who have the tightest view of what is nsfw trying to dictate those who see things differently, that's not how any communtiy should work tbh, otherwise levarage has to be made if you want the other side to bow to your ways.

Also I wouldn't advise anyone on ehre who thinks this site isn't sfw to visit Destructoid, shield your innocent eyes from those suggestive gifs lest they melt in embarrassment.

I would totally suggest an option to disable avatars and sigs though, both parties win in that scenario and the others who have theirs blocked don't have to be slapped around each time they want to change their avatar (like it or not that's how it feels).

For the record I don't browse any sites when I'm at work because Im supposed to be working and when I have my breaks I read the newspaper, talk to friends/co-workers, go out and get a bite indoors or out, watch the TV or if my break is long enough, go home and watch tv or browse. You can do a lot more during your work rbeaks than having to always come to this one site on the dot at every break.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Thanks for letting me know there is a settings option, that is perfect... wish I had known about that setting earlier :D
