Nintendo should heavily invest in Sony and go Playstation only. Nintendo sometimes makes great games but the hardware design is horrible and only got worse after the weak SNES CPU selection.

For starters, over one third of 3DS owners are Japanes. I can guarantee you that most of those don't also own a PS3/PS4/360/XBO. So there's that.

The same EAD sub-divisions made Mario Kart and Nintendogs. Likewise for Animal Crossing and Wii Sports. However Animal Crossing, Splatoon and the Wii series aren't made by the same team, and the same for Nintendogs and Mario Kart. You don't have a single development team releasing multiple games a year. A single development team only releases one game every multiple years. The different development teams are overseen by the same senior staff though, but that's hardly the same as them actually being the same team.

Yes, in my scenario, the studios making Mario Kart, Smash Bros etc. would, in addition to the handheld entry, make a multiplat home console entry each gen. Like I've already explained, because it would most likely sell boatloads more than their hypothetical handheld project.

I don't see how 1/3 of 3DS sales coming from Japan somehow rules out the possibility of a large number of 3DS owners also owning PS/XB consoles.

Yes that is true but the same sub-division working on PS/XB games along with Nintendo handheld games could instead be multiple handheld games which would help sell Nintendo's hardware. We have no idea that Smash/Kart/etc. would sell boatloads better than new IP on their handheld, Splatoon is a good example of a new IP moving a lot of software and even helping out the hardware.

By having 100% of Nintendo's resources dedicated to a single platform, Nintendo can diversify which makes the hardware a more compelling purchase. If Nintendo were to stop making consoles but still make handhelds, they would do everything they can to make sure the handheld succeeds and would probably just release a Vita TV type device to satisfy people who prefer to play on consoles.

Releasing their games on PS/XB doesn't benefit their handheld at all while potentially hurting it.

It at least rules out the possibilty of about one 3rd owning PS/XB consoles. Furthermore, all you have to do is look at the demographics of the systems. The bestselling games on PS/XB are nothing alike the bestselling games on 3DS. Sure, I can't with 100% certainty confirm that most 3DS owners don't own a PS/XB system, because I don't have the resources to conduct market research like that (Nintendo has though...), but I can say that it's a lot more likely that a vast majority of 3DS owners don't own PS/XB than it is that a lot of 3DS owners do own PS/XB.

Once again, we don't know with 100% certainty whether their hypothetical handheld projects would actually sell massive numbers. However the likelihood that they will is pretty small, while the likelihood that core franchises like Mario Kart, Smash Bros etc. would see great success as home console multiplats is much much higher.

Yes, they would get a bigger library for their handheld by not developing any home console multiplats (though as I said, their handhelds would already get substantially more support than today), but that doesn't mean that their hardware would suddenly sell a lot better. They'd risk cannibalizing their own sales because they'd be releasing quite a lot of games, and they'd see their own softare competing with itself, eating potential sales from one another, instead of release a bit fewer games on handheld, instead releasing them on home console, where they most likely would sell substantially more than what those teams' handheld games would.

No. Why would I? Are we so attached to names, brands and faces?

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Their only home-console franchises I care about are Pikmin and Paper Mario. It is not worth paying the price for their consoles for me, so yes, I'd prefer them to simply sell their games on Steam or Playstation.

It honestly depends on what the next console is. If it's like the GC and is just a normal, powerful console, they might as well go 3rd party because it won't be much different than the PS/XB anyway.

If they make another Wii U, I'd want them to go 3rd party because it would be a less powerful console with a bad "gimmick" attached.

However, if it's like the Wii & actually does what I consider a good "gimmick" then they should stay in the hardware business.

In all honesty tho, I'd be happy either way as long as the quality didn't go down with their games

Yes. Believe it or not, some people actually like dual screen gaming. And Nintendo's UI. And free online. And controllers with the analog sticks and face buttons where they're supposed to be.

Except for Nintendo UI that's all possible on PC with an Xone controller

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Nope wouldn't care, I am not a fan of the Nintendo phylosophie on console gaming. Neither do I see the 3DS or Wii U as innovative forces that made the industry move forward. You know who did MS with online gaming and Steam for allowing Indies. Sony pretty much did what it always does since the PS2, (provisie a variety of games and take doftware risks once in a while) although the PS+ idea and PSVR are nice. Just because something is different that doesn't mean it's innovative since the idea also needs to be wanted. The Gamepad and 3d screen in 3DS where not wanted but just kind a there and that is how they are treated. Well perhaps the NX does something different that we gamers want but if that's not the case and the NX will be a slightly more powerful PS4 with a gimmick that won't be very useful I would rather see them focussing on third party.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Yes, i only love Zelda, the other IP's are not may taste at all. There is no logical reasoning from people who do not want them to, people who buy there consoles still get the games.

I would mind a lot. This would spell death for handheld gaming. If they just put smash and mario party on other consoles, it's okay.

I don't mind. But I say I don't think I'd care enough to buy it full price.
