Forums - Nintendo Discussion - All Splatoon content has finally released! Was it not a good idea to release it this way instead of delaying it?

It will always have been a shitty move.

So if I reply to the rest of the post (I'm not sure what more replying there is to do, I feel I've already expressed my opinion and you have yours), you will answer my "irrelevant" question?

And I think it's very relevant. If it is okay for Splatoon, then it should naturally be okay for other games, and I don't think you mean that you would like to see the next Mario Kart and the next Smash Bros to launch this way. Now, if you'd answer that question, I'd know what you think and wouldn't have to assume here. Likewise, if it isn't okay for the next Mario Kart and the next Smash Bros. why does Splatoon get an exemption? New IP? Meaning that you disagree with this business practice except for with new IPs?

Not trying to put words in your mouth, but those are some of the implications of either answer, which is 100% relevant to the topic of this thread, which is why I asked. I can't force you to answer the question, but you can hardly claim it's "irrelevant".

This thread is about Splatoon, not other games, hence irrelevant. I had to say this a lot before Splatoon released as people loved to bring up DLC from other games, all of which were clearly handled very differently. The question can't be answered without knowing exactly how Nintendo would go about it anyway.

This thread is about wether the way Splatoon was released. Thus it's about the concept of this release, and not only the specific title in mention. That means it's relevant to find out whether we think this concept is okay for other games, and not only Splatoon, and if it's only okay for Splatoon, why?

I see nothing in your OP that suggests it's only about Splatoon. There's a lot in your OP that suggests it's about the concept of Splatoon's release though, hence 100% relevant.

The map rotations make it really boring for me rather than the periodic content.

I sort of like the slow content releases, because since they don't tell you anything about them, it's basically a surprise

I also got the game about a month later so some new maps were already released :p

Oh gods lol. Well I'm telling you now, it's about Splatoon and how it released. If you want to make a thread about every game ever getting every form of dlc ever, then by all means, but I'd rather not have infinite what if talk here.

I'm kinda on the fence about it. On one hand, it kept me coming back for the most part to see the new content (don't know how it was for other people but the game kept me interested) but at the same time, starting the game off with such little content leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Either way, I'm happy with the final product they gave us

Give Octolings! Argh!!!

Yes it was awesome idea! It kept people talking when every new content arrives.

Youtube Lets Players kept releasing videos of them trying out the new content. Which again, kept people talking and kept people knowing that this game exist.

Pocky Lover Boy!

I liked how they did it. It kept me coming back to play more.

For now, I think this concept was an exception. Nintendo and the young developers really wanted this new IP to not only sell well, but gain continued interest. Considering the genre it would be competing in, Splatoon had to stand out. It now has legs that almost matches the likes of Mario Kart. I think if we got a majority of all of the content we have now at launch, Nintendo's young developers thought they would risk having casual players lose interest or be overwhelmed.

I mean think about the Wii U's install base. If one wanted to play Tower Control but everyone else wanted to play Turf Wars or something else, then the mode would be barren.. Splatoon doesn't have the prestige to ensure a good amount of sales. At least here, with constant stream of updates, everyone has a fair chance of seeing what's coming up next and be on a more even playing field. Sure, the game was bare bones in the beginning, but I think the young team wanted to play the long game. It was a ballsy move, but it created constant interest throughout the year. As for the potential sequel, I think it will not have the same concept in terms of content updates as the audience is now established and Splatoon is well recognized. Plus, it's got to be a bigger game.
