Have the boycotters ever said who should have been nominated, and who should therefore have been omitted?

Idris Elba in.

JLaw out.

Cause reasons...

Elba as lead woman would be...different.

So I guess he's pissed he wasn't nominated for Concussion?

Signature goes here!

It's kinda hard not to be suspicious when most of the Academy members are old white males.

This kind of talk seems to happen every year in regards to the academy snubbing some movies or actors. As far as black actors the ones that have gotten mentioned the most are Idris Elba from Beasts of No Nation, and Michael B. White from Creed. Will Smith has been talked about as well, but the movie itself got only somewhat positive reviews which probably hurt Smith's chances. Mind you, I haven't actually seen any of those movies so I can't say how good the performances actually were.

My misses boycotted this show and I'm going to have to go along with it because I don't like sleeping on the couch.

whatever, this is Leo's year.

So, he's implying that they should nominate people not by their merit, but based on ethnic/cultural diversity?

Or the did I read it wrong?

i'd have to review the movies out this year but that's kind of the question i want to know too.

the nominated people is filtered down to which movies/performers where great this year.  now let's be honest,.. without much review i can already tell you most of the hollywood movies feature white people.  so if there were no great performances from non-white people this year it seems like you shouldn't be protesting the awards ceremony but rather the movie casting.

but then casting often times comes down to celebrities that pack the theaters with people.  a pure ecomonics based decision which implies it is movie goers that are truely to blame.

i dunno.  there is a "problem" but i'm just not sure blame is being put in the right spot.

okay.  to answer my own question here are the top 10 rated movies according to rotten tomatoes:

.   97% Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
2.   98% Inside Out (2015)
3.   99% Selma (2015)
4. 93% Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
5. 98% Brooklyn (2015)
6. 97% It Follows (2015)
7. 97% Spotlight (2015)
8. 99% Shaun the Sheep (2015)
9. 93% The Martian (2015)
10. 98% Paddington (2015)

so basically the possibility of non-white actors is:

1. selma

2. the black guy from star wars

Well, I'm not sure blockbuster movies with high Rotten tomato scores are the best reference point for potential Oscar nominess/winners. How many of the nominees for any of the best actor awards (male lead, female lead, supporting etc.) were from those movies? Matt Damon from The Martian is the only one I know of, but of course I haven't been paying attention to this (and I won't either). BTW The Martian was frikkin great.

Really sad seeing this and the Nasa gender equality milestone. It's never pick the best for the job anymore unless you want to look like a bad guy by this PC state of mind so many people are in these days in the U.S.

I believe Selma was last year's Oscars. Also, you're forgetting Creed and Concussion.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Am I the only one who's starting to feel that "old white male" is in and of itself becoming a racist/ageist slur? It's like, "Oh, what's that? You're old, white, AND happen to be a man? You MUST therefore be a massive bigot, so your views, and the views of your peers, whatever they may actually be, can be safely dismissed."
