I'm cautiously optimistic because it has Fassbender who's fantastic.
I don't know if I'll watch in theaters, but I will definitely give it a watch at some point.

Dismissive. It'll suck like most video game movies.
Should we expect an Assassin's Creed game based on the movie? Something like "Street Fighter: The Movie (the game)"
I think Assassin's Creed as a movie could work well! But only if its done right... otherwise its just a steaming pile of shit, just like Unity.
Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).
I'm rather pessimistic , i really loved the first AC stories it was the best ones for me, so maybe if the movie is based on those periods it can be ok.
But still every Video Game movie adaptation i saw sucked so... yeah.
I will watch trailers and wait a few weeks after release to see comments and decide if it's worth the money
I'm excited at the prospect of this actually being good and making money and then hopefully well get a few more decent game to film adaptations, otherwise only a passive interest in ass creed
The movie is probably gonna be harder to get through than the games.
I don't care. I'm not gonna watch it.

Oh that's great he is an amazing actor, now I have more interest in this movie |
You should be less concerned about the actors and more concerned about the writers and director. If the screenplay and directing aren't good quality then the movie will be crap regardless of the actors. And if the screenplay and directing are good, then the movie will be good even without big name actors.
So here are the creds of the director and writers
Director Justin Kurzel http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2355933/?ref_=ttfc_fc_dr1 has directed 3 feature length movies to date all of them decently reviewed:
The Snowtown Murders. 83% rotten tomatoes
Macbeth (I) (2015) (also starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, which is sort of a good thing, means these 2 quality actors are fine with working with the guy again). 80% rotten tomatoes
The Turning - doesn't really count as it's a series of short films directed by a whole bunch of people.
So far looks promising
Writers
Bill Collage - Not going to list all his movies, but he has a pretty bad track record rotten tomatoes-wise only one movie above 60%. So he's basicaly a B-list or C-list writer.
Adam Cooper - Basically Bill's buddy and thus has the same record for writiung as Bill, i.e. not good.
Michael Lesslie - Was one of 3 screenwriters on MacBeth. But seriously how can you fuck up the screenplay for MacBeth? The play is the play, you just have to not go trying to put your own slant on it.
So, based on director there is some hope. But the let down as with almost all video game adaptations is that they can't convince quality writers to hold their nose and write a movie script for a video game.
Thus actors aside, and despite having a proimising director I just don't think the screenplay is likely to be up to scratch.

some of the Resident Evil movies are actually pretty damn good
specifically the first one (Resident Evil) and Resident Evil: Afterlife were both pretty good in my opinion. they felt 'right' compared to the games
just commenting on that since the OP mentioned them
in terms of an Assassin Creed movie. I would say that the AC universe sort of lends itself to Hollywood which is good and bad. good because it seems like a property that wouldn't be that hard to adapt to film (action adventure with unique time periods) but bad in the sense of there have been a LOT of movies already in the past with similar plots to Assassin's Creed. i.e., hero is teleported to a unique time period in which he attempts to stop some sort of evil group or plot
I'm hesistantly curious. the Prince of Persia movie adaption sort of speaks volumes to the fact that even if you a video game property that seems like it would be well suited for film that it can go terribly wrong
the problem is I think in production of a video game related film a lot of production companies can feel too obligated too closely connect it to the actual game plots OR they're so comfortable with knowing that they have a video game built in audience to go see it, that they half ass it
sort of backwards, but a fun thing to bring up, is how 007 Goldeneye was a film and then an amazingly adopted video game (the game is so incredibly true to the film and it just really really works).
obviously this is backwards. I do feel like often it seems HARDER to adapt a video game property to film than the other way around. more often we see good movies translated into good games
hopeful and hyped. it has michael fassbender, who is awesome. and i think the source material for AC could work really really well as a game. i hope they dont fuck it up.
