To be honest even if you never Smash against any person you will still be able to enjoy it to death. Yes 4 player battles is where the funs at but you can play 4 player games against the computer. Smash Bros was my most played game last gen by light years but I hardly played against human characters. I used play against computer characters with them set to Level 9 and it was always a blast. You could have as much variety to the battles as you like by changing the computer characters. Even 2 on 2 was a blast (although I would often get quite annoyed if I felt my computer team mate was letting me down..

Super Smash Brawl Code 1762-4158-5677 Send me a message if you want to receive a beat down
I'm a pure online guy and in terms of Brawl I have played very few online matches which is very uncharacteristic of me. I think you would enjoy it just as much playing off line because I sure have.
SSBB haves alot to offer even if you do not have internet connection. For instance, the Space Emissary aka adventure mode. It is basically a storyline mode for all characters in brawl with in depth playtime, and side scrolling missions. You can play one or two players in adventure mode. There is also classic mode that offers brawling against an ai character or multiple characters. You can even create your own stages with its own stage builder, and take pictures or videos of your gameplay at anytime during combat. There is also a functionality of brawl called masterpieces, which allows you to play classic games for a limited time. However, if you are not going to brawl against people online or have others interested in brawling with you locally than I suggest you to rent this game. If you think that this game is worth 50 dollars to own after renting then you should do so, but I do suggest you to get broadband internet to complete the full feeling of brawl.
Yeah, if you can't get online, then the main pull of this game is if you can find someone to play against or with locally, same as how it was with Melee.
I will point out that if you're a completionist, you might have fun trying to unlock all the various characters, trophies, stickers, stages pieces, CDs, and challenges. I'm very deliberately pacing myself and making sure I don't try to do any crunching that's sole purpose is to complete a challenge, so that I don't shorten the game's lifespan on that issue.
Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods

If you have a lot of friends .... with a lot of controllers then you could have a blast too :D, if only your friends liked videogames :(

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
Buy Brawl. Convert your non-videogame playing friends... DO IT NOW!!!
The "Masterpieces" are Demos and are timed as follows (I've unlocked them all) however, I don't know if they are within timing before save data is erased, or if they are overall play time before the game gets erased (As I've Never used them) Probably the latter. Maybe you could just back up your Save on your SD Card and play them again?

I know that you can buy OoT and I think Majora's Mask and the original LoZ all on one GameCube Disc for only $50 (probably less now)
Oh yeah, and Yes, I do actually have the game, and I play online, but I play just about as much with my friends or family, and it's still fun. Also, If 3 Level 9 CPU's on a team get too easy (like they did for me) use handicaps : - )!!!
The only reason I haven't bought a Wii because of SSBB is because the game is simply more fun going to another person's house to play it. In the absence of voice-chat and online leaderboard. I don't see the need to put out money right now.
I will wait for MarioKart.
