Nintendo's debt is so low that's funny.

Around the Network

I've not really encountered this being said, most people even the avid fans of Sony will happily tell you about their failures or regions they need to get away from really, this seems like a reaction thread to a minority group or member maybe.

But yeah, in General MS have a lot of Money, Sony have more debt than money and Nintendo are are doing just fine.

Doesn't alter the fact that in terms of console sales (what this site is focused on) Sony is dominating with a 3:1 sales lead over their nearest rival.
More money in the bank doesn't make a console magically a place where gamers want to game on, there is moneyhatting of titles which can be done, but at the end of the day gamers have minds and when those deals rise to the surface now you get backlash as with the Tomb Raider Reboot Sequel getting mostly ignored when Square accepted a cheque to not launch the game on the system with the most gamers.

When it comes to Gaming health of the 3 companies while MS has an amazing online infrastructure, gamers on the PS4 currently know that if they buy an online game on the platform they are twice as likely to encounter another player of the game due to the systems sales.

But if you just want a thread of financial statements I mean... there it is in the OP in black and White, I just hope the person/people who this thread is intended to educate come in here and read them, but if someone wasn't aware of this before now... that's unlikely to change I'd say Spokentruth, but Kudos for you for trying!

There is a connection between all those traits you know?

Sorry mate I don't follow which traits you mean? It's very likely I missed it, rather tired myself so, sorry about that!

The health of their console divisions reflects on their profits. To sell a console in large amounts takes more money and it's obvious that Sony put a lot more into the PS4 than MS on the XONE... this actually reflects how important their console audience is to them.

Granted, a lot more might happen that can lead to higher debt, but this is spot on...

it is sort of funny to see how much better shape financially Nintendo is in lately than Sony despite the Wii U not going great. I guess that could be attributed to the 3DS or just very careful business from them over the years (and not dropping the Wii U price! haha)

obviously Microsoft is in another league compared to Nintendo/Sony but to be fair its obviously much more than a video game company and in terms of video game numbers alone would actually be beneath them

its interesting looking at Sony's 'assets' how large they still really are. if not for a lot of mismanagement and poor choices over the last few years (phone division?) they would probably still be one of the leading electronic companies in the world

probably headed back in the direction of dominating other parts of the electronics division though. I can't imagine a world in which Sony TVs and things wouldn't be popular, they always seem high quality

its just absolute insane to me that Sony has almost as much in assets as Microsoft, one of the biggest companies in the world

Not sure what this thread is supposed to be about.
I would hope nobody actually thought that sony is 'beating ms' because of playstation.

I'm curious to know who actually would've said that to be honest.

Nintendo is in the best shape, as expected

Not so much beating MS but many people believe that the company as a whole is financially sound just because the PS4 is selling well.  And on the other side many people think that Nintendo is either near bankrupt or going to be forced to merge/go 3rd party just because the Wii U isn't selling well.

The point is that the true health of either of those companies cannot be judged solely on the success of failure of their current products but a lot of people do just that.  You have to assess their solvency.  How much liability and debt they carry against how much cash and assets they hold.

Sony is financially sound. It has a net worth of $22 billion according to your table, which is more than the Assets+cash and short term investments of Nintendo. So people believe Sony is financially sound, because it actually is.

But it's not just where each company is sitting at this moment in time, it's about which direction they are going. Is the net worth getting bigger or smaller?Once you know that, then you have an idea of risk.
