I think this makes you moderate lol.

I see no moderate option :)

Gawd, everyone with all the options already!

I'm an Aussie and both look fairly right-wing to me. I'm on the left, socially, of Australian politics and am a centrist from an economic standpoint, so I'd probably look far left-wing to the American system.

Actually, I think the Left's Authoritarian tactic of trying to control speech is pushing more out of their base, than into it.  They seem utterly oblivious to the fact that shutting down the debate, is not the same as stopping thoughts.

The conflict of the hyper-politically correct left and bigoted right fringes always bemuses me, because neither seems to admit how blind they are to everyone else. Each has this need to be heard and fear of being ignored and suppressed, but their acerbic and combatative natures only lead their fears being realized. One side wants to address everything with kid gloves; the other side wants to address everything with boxing gloves.

Pretty much, and both sides are willing to violate (if given the opportunity) basic civil liberties in order to achieve their goals.

Even in the context of just the US political system, Obama is slightly left of center.

Hence, Bush passing the Patriot Act, and Obama expanding upon it.

That still doesn't change the fact that both major politcial parties in the US are pretty far right. But if what you wanted wasn't peoples actual international political stance, but rather their stance on American politics, then yes, go on.

Also that the two American political parties don't actually stand for many of the things that are listed.

"For the purposes of this poll, "right," will mean favoring the US Republican Party (prioritize fiscal conservatism, religion, deregulation, and laissez-faire capitalism), and "left" will mean favoring the US Democratic Party (prioritize social welfare, secularism, regulation, and socialist/capitalist hybridized economic policies). "

These are the core issues that they claim to represent and utilize to motivate their voter base. While you are right that they actually enact policies that are quite similar (taxation, budgets, military, etc.), these are the ideals that each side is defending/demonizing.

If you are not from the US, it must be something akin to viewing a circus, on LSD, through a kaleidoscope.

I'm surprised by the lack of "I hate everything" comments.

Well, if Democrats are considered as left, I choose Left as a non-american male.
I would never vote for a ultra-conservative party.

Democratic Party...
