Forums - Movies & TV - Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith to Boycott the 2016 Academy Awards Over Lack of Diversity in Nominations

Everyone knows awards should be given, not on ability to the roles people have played but on making sure the organisers fill their 'quota'. Good on them for boycotting.

Hmm, pie.

This is stupid.

Are they seriously going to pout because they don't get their way? Over the years, a lot of great movies didn't get what they deserved, that's not new.

Stop making this about race.

So in that case, should we boycott the BET Awards since that is almost entirely African American and has little to no Hispanics, Asians, or Caucasians at all?
This seems hypocritical if you ask me.

We should boycott the BET awards or the latin grammy's, due to lack of diversity.

Complete and utter indifference from me, really.

I'm pretty sure nobody gives a crap about these two people. The Smith family (except for Will) are a bunch of attention whores.

Spike Lee is a racist himself. This doesn't surprise me.

This is stupid. Oh no... I don't see a bunch of black people's names on a list... Some white people are being pricks...

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Funny how some people still think the academy awards actually mean something.

That said, this is just stupid. What do they want, a quote for black actors in the nominees? So they would have to consider them even when in one year they were all horribly bad? Bullocks.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

if there had been a ton of awesome roles by other ethnicities that were being shut out I would totally agree with them

but that's not the case! I can't think of any super awesome roles by African Americans in the last year. its not about racist or discrimination, its just about the best actors

again though 6000 people vote in the Acadamey, I think it would be rather sort sighted to claim that it was any form of discrimination. if they have an issue the issue would be certain Hollywood studios not hiring enough races for good roles

at any rate plenty of Hispanic and African Americans have won Oscars before so I find the whole thing silly
