Forums - General Discussion - The Nihongo Speakers thread, if you'd like to practice Japanese, here's your place!

I'm interested in learning Japanese. Any way to start without spending money? xDDDDD. There's not precisely a lot of Japanese teachers near my home.

now now can we start from the basic, how to remember some kanji words maybe.

If you go online you can find 'heisigs remembering the kanji' just download the pdf, it gives great stories on remembering kanji and teaches you in optimal order so instead of teaching you something like 髪 straight away you learn small kanji and then bigger ones are just made up of smaller kanji.

For example 口 to 日 to 目 to 月 and 明 etc. I'd find the link for you but I'm on my phone in a Subway and about to go to work.

Torrent rossetta stone, learn hiragana and katakana online, look at a previous comment I made for kanji and listen to Japanese music and watch subbed video/movie to help your brain adjust to hearing native speakers. I've been learning since last April, a bunch of vocabulary, online help for grammar particles and 1000 kanji later I haven't spent a single penny

I highly recommend this to people who want to get into Japanese (warning, he doesn't use romaji, but I see that as a plus as it is best to stop using it as soon as possible):

Try to find Japanese websites to converse with people, maybe go to language sites where you speak your language for a while then converse in Japanese, find some movies, music, video games, books, anime etc. that are in Japanese and that interest you, get some grammar and vocabulary books for practice and learning.

Oh, thanks! I only meet one requisite, I'm an anime addict so I already know some expressions, phonetically. Not a big deal, but it's something. I'd start for that and I'd come with some awfully bad written expressions in a while :P

Do you plan on reading as well? If so, learn Hiragana and Katakana as soon as possible, and then try to start learning Kanji afterwards (do not try to memorize it by kanji, as they have multiple readings, instead try to learn by the word).

Well there you go!

You'll get a better understanding of the things you know when you start learning properly aswell.

Yeah, that's my intention. Reading and speaking Japanese is one of the things I've always wanted to do, but I haven't got any time to do this. I'll follow your advice and see if I can advance. Not rush, I know speaking a language is a slow task. But I'll do my best! :P
