Yeah, I've been saying this all last year. I'm even going to win a year long bet because of it. It simply isn't happening. Nintendo has hinted NUMEROUS times it isn't happening. Aside from getting an actual release date (which will happen just like every single time they've revealed a console in recent history) at E3, which will be 2017. Now early, middle, or late 2017 I couldn't tell you. Whoever said March may very well have a point, but hearing people talk like it'll be late Oct - Dec for release are doomed to disappointment. It isn't happening.

Hinted NUMEROUS times!? Pls tell wrote some of those things, I cant recall one single hint that NX isnt coming this year.

"development was progressing steadily and that Nintendo didn’t want to rush the console to market.”, " We’ve also said publicly that we are already hard at work on our next home console and that’s another element we’ll be talking about much later."

Both of these seem to hint that they are in no rush to release the NX this year.

I don't think it will release this year but I certainly believe Nintendo have predominantly dropped internal support for the Wii U in order to focus on its successor. Nintendo drops failing consoles like a lead turd(see Nintendo 64 and Gamecube).

That quote was mistranslated.

Basically all was said is that "development was progressing steadily". Nothing about rushing it.

Also note in Kimishima's address to shareholders at the beginning of this year, NX is mentioned specifically, whereas 3DS and Wii U are not mentioned at all. Gee, kinda curious to not mention your two key 2016 products ... unless ... they actually aren't your key products.

And if NX is not a 2016 product, why specifically mention it in a 2016 New Year address to shareholders?

If they were planning to robustly support the Wii U for another two years, I have to think there would have been far more new games shown ... they had many oppurtunities even with Mr. Iwata's passing. That November Direct with no new big projects from any of the core Nintendo teams was pretty much a dead giveaway.

I think Nintendo internally decided to "move on" from Wii U after holiday 2013 results came in and it was clear they were not going to get the Wii casuals back. Projects that were already in development like Splatoon and Zelda and Xenoblade would continue, but from this point on they started to focus more internally on the NX and the Wii U would get more filler titles farmed out to externally developers. In early 2014, Mr. Iwata started to talk about a "new hardware concept" and a unified platform structure like iOS and that all this would take 2 years to come to realize.

My guess is about early 2014, Nintendo made some big decisions regarding the future of their company (including begrudingly oking smartphone games).

ii never said they were going to robustly support the wii u. the only times they have ever done that seem to be the second half of 2015. wii u NEVER had robust support. really think about it. ton of software in second half 2015, and thats it for its whole life. but what nintendo does robustly support are the communities of people who already bought their games. smash, splatoon, and mario maker get constant updates and nintendo is taking really good care of those customers. they arent just going to leave them in the dust.

iwata talked about new hardware concept in 2014, but remember wii u was first worked on in 2008. im standing by this idea that nintendo is going to take their time ensuring a successful launch of their new hardware. they arent going to rush out a piece of shit with a 33% failure rate.

But Iwata specifically mentioned a time line of 2 years to bring to market, who knows the NX concept probably has been in development for longer than that, likely soon after the 3DS launched, but 2 years ago is when they really started to focus on it, looks like.

We know for a fact they also signed a deal with Sharp for free form LCDs in late 2014, these LCDs will only go into production this year (2016). Now we have a Nintendo patent for free form LCDs in a game controller.

Again, another not so subtle hint at 2016.

The technology of 2016 is pretty awesome anyways, you don't have to rush much, 14nm/16nm is becoming the norm.

Also note the last Nintendo "rushed" a system to market it became their best selling system ever (yes, people felt Nintendo was rushing the DS to market in a panic move). Seems to me like Nintendo often works better when they have a kick in the ass and fire under their butt. When they are allowed to get lazy and sit around and work at a leisurely pace they often get into trouble.

at bolded: how do you know this? i havent heard anything about that.

That "rush" inst true in translation, this is original: "development is steadily progressing."

"that’s another element we’ll be talking about much later." Pls give me link that he said much later.

Even those sentence are true (but they are not), they hinting NX will not but rushed product, but that doesnt mean NX will not be launched this year. Again, Nintendo said nothing that imply that NX want be launched this year, only thing they said that we will have infos about NX this year and that they didnt want to talk about NX before beacuse they afraid competion could still their idea, to me that sound like not huge gap between revile and launch like before.

Also, what @SoundWave wrote, Kimishima NX is mentioned specifically, whereas 3DS and Wii U are not mentioned at all. Why he wouldn't mentioned at all 3DS/WiiU and mention NX in plans for 2016. if they relly dont want to release NX in 2016!?

From way back in late 2014 when Nintendo and Sharp initially signed their deal together:

http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/16/7406585/nintendo-said-to-use-sharp-free-form-displays

"Kyodo's report says that mass production of the Free-Form Display is set to begin early 2016."
