Forums - Nintendo Discussion - the Wii U is not getting replaced this year, guys

Yeah, I've been saying this all last year. I'm even going to win a year long bet because of it. It simply isn't happening. Nintendo has hinted NUMEROUS times it isn't happening. Aside from getting an actual release date (which will happen just like every single time they've revealed a console in recent history) at E3, which will be 2017. Now early, middle, or late 2017 I couldn't tell you. Whoever said March may very well have a point, but hearing people talk like it'll be late Oct - Dec for release are doomed to disappointment. It isn't happening.

Nintendo announced only 4 Wii U games in 2015 that hadn't already been announced in 2014.

Out of those 4 Only pikmin 4 remains on the horizon. The other Games left on Wii U's release schedule are ones we knew about. In march we will see if new game announcements are made.

Also, Dev kits are reported to be in developer's hands already. Typically, Nintendo launches 18 months after announcing a new platform. That's almost enough time to put together great launch games. But It's unusual to have so little info on a new Nintendo platform this close to a potential release.

Rumors over patents suggest an upgradable home console with connectivity to multiple mobile devices.

It'll probably be revealed this year for release next year, that's my gut feeling anyway.

Backed by the history of reveal/release timeframe of Gamecube, Wii, and Wii U.

This is, most probably, the last year for WiiU support. Regardless of when the NX launches.

yeah, but.. but.. but this time nintendo needs to hurry up and release a new console before the dreamcast themselves!

seriously though, ive heard the argument too many times that nintendo isnt going to follow the same patterns concerning reveals that they previously had because they just need to hurry up and satisfy the gamers. just hurry, hurry, hurry.

i can see 2017 being a pretty barren year. my god, let us not forget how the gamecube's 2006 was. it was awful. regardless, the wii u will still get games. maybe smaller projects. honestly, one of my favorite wii games was 2012's rhythm heaven fever. me and my friends would get hella drunk and play that shit all night.

I agree. A home console replacement is not due out this year. At all

NX will come November 2016-March 2017. Plain and simple. They don' t have games to support the thing for the entire 2017. What they are developing now except for Zelda, Star Fox and maybe Pikmin 4 is going to be released on the NX.

And thats pretty much it.

how do you know that they dont have games lined up to support it in 2017? does sony have any games to support the ps4 in 2017? im not aware of any games that are currently announced on the ps4 that are coming out in 2017 besides maybe shenmue.

Because they have 5 games confirmed for this year, two that should have been released last year, one that has already been released in Japan, another that is a port of an arcade machine, another port from Gamecube and another one that is being made by SEGA. Except for Zelda and Star Fox, the others are esentially leftovers. If they are feeding the poor machine with leftovers in 2016... what can we expect from 2017? From my perspective: nothing.

My personal feeling is the central NX hardware model is a portable console (it can function as both, hence it's a new type of game platform) with a processor in the same ball park as things like the Tegra X1 and Apple A9X chip, which are powerful but not actually that expensive for the processor.

This model they are aiming for November 2016, whether they can make that who knows, but I think they are trying hard because Wii U and 3DS (at this stage) sales are both mediocre quite honestly and they probably don't want to waste another fiscal year with just those two. 3DS needs to be replaced even if you don't think the Wii U does.

Other more specific models (ie: maybe a home only console) may come later as 2017 and even 2018 go along but these will simply play the same games as the NX releasing in 2016 does, just maybe with better graphics (for the dedicated console). Or they may just ditch the console and go with that "supplementary add-on" that they patented for more power.

its been a real annoyance watching people live their lives as if this NX thing is releasing 2016, end of story. look, guys, it isnt happening. if anything, we might see a 3DS replacement. but the wii u? definitely not getting replaced this year. did you guys know that nintendo is still selling this console for $300? when in history was a console $300 the year it got replaced? never, that's when. nintendo is making money off the wii u right now, and they will all year. 2017 might be a good year to replace the wii u. right now, nintendo is still showing incredible support on all of its wii u software, and you guys honestly think that this console is going to be dropped by the end of the year? it isnt happening. i have declared that it isnt happening, and that is the end of it.

discuss.

Why you think so many people think NX will be relased this year!?

Because almost everything points to 2016. launch for NX. When was last time Nintendo announced new Wii U game that isnt small project, spinoff or port!? I personally cant remember, maybe Star Fox Zero at E3 2014!? Why is that, because Nintendo is focused on NX probably from 2014. and they continue to support Wii U only with previously announced games, small projects, spinoffs and ports. Also every info, report or rumour points for 2016. launch, I will just mentione few of them, Digitimes report, Wall Street Journal report and Nomura Securities report (Japanes business analyst firm).

Why Wii U still has $300 price, because Nintendo is making profit with that price and price cut wouldn't change anything because Wii U is selling terrible, but at least they can have profit on evere sold console. Also when NX launch they will probably have price cut.

End of 2016. will be 4 whole years of full Nintendo support, that's on pair with other Nintendo consoles with difference that last year or two are almost completely dead in terms of support so even other Nintendo consoles had longer life span they also had support of around 4 years like WIi U.
