Forums - Nintendo Discussion - the Wii U is not getting replaced this year, guys

its been a real annoyance watching people live their lives as if this NX thing is releasing 2016, end of story. look, guys, it isnt happening. if anything, we might see a 3DS replacement. but the wii u? definitely not getting replaced this year. did you guys know that nintendo is still selling this console for $300? when in history was a console $300 the year it got replaced? never, that's when. nintendo is making money off the wii u right now, and they will all year. 2017 might be a good year to replace the wii u. right now, nintendo is still showing incredible support on all of its wii u software, and you guys honestly think that this console is going to be dropped by the end of the year? it isnt happening. i have declared that it isnt happening, and that is the end of it.

discuss.

NX will come November 2016-March 2017. Plain and simple. They don' t have games to support the thing for the entire 2017. What they are developing now except for Zelda, Star Fox and maybe Pikmin 4 is going to be released on the NX.

And thats pretty much it.

3DS replacement = end of the Wii U anyway.

So it doesn't matter then does it. Nintendo will have to throw all major development towards a 3DS successor, which will have graphics probably rivalling the Wii U itself.

If the 3DS successor fails, that's basically curtains for Nintendo as a hardware manufacturer so they can't just fart out a 3DS successor with lukewarm support while still juggling the Wii U.

So that theory doesn't fly at all. Oh and by the way, the reason Wii had such shit support in 2011 and 2012, was because Nintendo was making 3DS games ... so that isn't the first time this has happened either (and the 3DS successor will require more dev time/resources as it almost certainly should be capable of some pretty impressive high end 3D graphics).

Even with GameCube, Nintendo basically gave up on the system with internal support after 2004 ... why? Because they were working on the Nintendo DS.

how do you know that they dont have games lined up to support it in 2017? does sony have any games to support the ps4 in 2017? im not aware of any games that are currently announced on the ps4 that are coming out in 2017 besides maybe shenmue.

They're keeping the Wii U at profit because why wouldn't they? It's not going to magically sell any better if it's $250 or if they take a big loss at $200. The GameCube barely sold at $50 for God's sake. With shelf space for the console withering too, it's better to keep it high from a business standpoint even if they'd prefer to let the software make their money like usual. Either way this is a company with a new president that just barely made it out of its first big slump in over a century; they're gonna play it safe with their dying console.

Whether they release the NX home device this year doesn't hinge on the fact that the Wii U still costs a lot, and vice versa. As somebody who seems to be a Nintendo fan, you should know as well as everybody else that you can't use traditional logic with them sometimes.

And I'm sure somebody else will go with some snarky response such as "no Nintendo console was over $300 before either," so be prepared for that. Just keep in mind I'm playing my Wii U right now while typing this, so this is coming from a place of love.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

ok well i think youre focusing on the wrong part of my post. i dont particularly believe a 3DS successor is happening either.

So what makes you so sure they have a good lineup for NX launch and beyond so it doesn't have any droughts?

Seriously. Fu**ing stop.

so do you think that it is being replaced this year? you dont seem to indicate one way or another. i dont necessarily disagree with anything that you said, but i dont see how any of that means the wii u is being replaced this year.

preach it, paatar

*high five*

no seriously though, nintendo does need to take time and care into this console. they are not going to rush it, and from looking at it, i dont see how they could have spent the necessary time to ensure a successful launch as early as this year.

It'll probably be revealed this year for release next year, that's my gut feeling anyway.
