Forums - Sales Discussion - Most disappointing game of 2015, sales-wise?

Tomb Raider (we all know why) and MGSV in my opinion both of them seem to be doing not a little worse then I personally expected of them but allot worse. December showed some recovery for Tomb Raider but I'm not sure how much it will do in the bigger picture of things, it still looks very bad to me. MGSV being multi-platform makes it a pretty big surprise that it's not selling better then it is, given what MGS4 did makes it a big disappointment.

Over all, I'm undecided on which I'd put over the other as worse yet... Tomb raider has 2016 releases but if I do look at just 2015 Tomb Raider takes it for most disappointing sales as it's sales on Xbox have been extremely underwhelming and half of what you would expect from the franchise (again, we know why). Which is why I'm not throwing Halo 5 in there, it's in a pretty big decline but not as bad as these two in my opinion for most disappointing sales.

halo 5 - sold well but down for the franchise
tomb raider - discussed to death
the order 1886 - probably sold what it deserved but it should have been a better game i guess
bloodborne - sold well for the "franchise" but this franchise should be a 10+ million seller imo

It's probably between Metal Gear Solid V, Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider in my opinion.

I would say xenoblade chronicles X based on what I believe it has the potential to perform. This game truly deserves to sell well, if Nintendo had only marketed and advertised it. Most friends of mine know nothing about it. Its by far my favourite game of 2015. Witcher 3 is my number 2 game. There's no reason Xenoblade Chronicles X doesn't have the capacity to sell 2 million + if it had the same ad budget as other top games get. Makes me so very sad as it deserves to be played by a lot of people.

^^This. Nintendo is losing this gen because of lack of advertising. I never saw one ad for x, heard the placed ads on adult swim but most of that audience knew about the game. They should have avertised on programs that are not the normal hardcore audience like Sony/Microsoft. X should have sold more units after that big opening week.

Mmmm... Metal Gear Solid V? I mean, the game is trending somewhere over Metal Gear Solid 4 during the same time, but I can't shake the feeling that it was hyped to sell much, much better.

Yep, agreed. I was even discussing this here the other day... I expected a bigger growth for the franchise given the hype, controversy and the fact that it's a multiplat title.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Bloodborne should outsell Wii sports

Xenoblade Chronicles X, based on pedigree and hype should sell about the same as Splatoon.

Splatoon is the opposite effect. Most surprising sales success.

From what I've read here and there, Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Order: 1886.

Not Rise of the Tomb Raider. Really the game sold as well as is possibly could with all things considered. Considering the limited install base of being Xbox-only, and that it released in the same holiday season as Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, COD Blops 3, and Star Wars Battlefront EA.

For me, I would have to say Kirby and the Terraway Unfolded. Considering how cool the game looks, it's decent review scores, and the huge install base of the PS4, I expected it to sell 300-500K.
