Forums - Gaming Discussion - ESPN now covering eSports

Noticed today on my morning site rounds that ESPN now has an eSports section: http://espn.go.com/esports/

It's nice to see that the competitive gaming scene has gotten large enough to warrant attention.  However, I laughed a bit when ESPN started covering poker, and find this to be just as bad.

So what say you?  Are eSports worthy of being covered by ESPN (or any large sports-based network)?

"Are eSports worthy of being covered by ESPN"

I follow the EU & NA LCS... so yes they are.

What do you mean "just as bad"?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

To me it is not a "real" sport and thus shouldn't be covered as such by a major sports network.  Like darts, poker, even rock paper scissors.  I enjoy a little athleticism with my sports, so it makes me biased.

I enjoy the fact that gaming competitions are getting coverage, but still find the notion that there might someday be Sportscenter highlights of a Smash tournament to be silly.

Seems to me like you're biased against finger athleticism. Last time I checked they count as extremities with muscles and coordination as well.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I love gaming but spending all your free time on a video game should hardly be glamorized. Might as well start covering competitive couch sitting

Edit: considered this the past few minutes..  Honestly I'm just jealous people get paid to do something like that lol.

Edit 2: If ESPN were to cover mlg, it would make the most sense to me that it had its own channel rather than being lumped in with baseball football or basketball.
