This past year has been a heartbreaking year for users leaving. We've seen many either get banned, or simply don't bother anymore. With Smeags leaving today, its just another unfortunent casualty. Here are just some I could list...

Ka-pi96 (didn't even know till a few days ago :(), ethomaz (had lots of disagreements, but I still think he was a big part of our community), smeags (just left today, damn), JayWood2010 (Xbox Empire... that's all you need to know), and many more that have left our small but happy community. These users were all big posters here, and its saddening to have seen them all come and pass.

I've always loved the community here (even if I got pissed and raged at it...), and I feel its far better than most forums. I've learned the hard way just how bad other forums can be, and it feels safe here. Everyone knows each other, its friendly, welcoming. So I don't get why this is happening... maybe the community is too nice (I doubt it though)? Maybe its not as great for xbox fans as it is for other communities (which is why we've seen a large part of them leave). Maybe its something else... I don't know.

But seeing all these people leave. Its hard to say. I've made lots of friendship's here, and I'm sure we all have. We're all loyal to this site, and I'm sure we'd do anything to keep it running. I feel this needs to be addressed as a community. I wouldn't know how, but encouraging users to stay, or simply showing them positives. People do grow up, and I understand that. But I've seen people as young as 14, and as old as 56, so its clearly diverse in terms of age group.

But I hope this starts to happen less often. I really like this community, but seeing so many people leave, it leaves a hole in my heart.

Edit: Having problems posting other users images, so I'll just leave Smeags for tribute for now.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Wait Ka-pi96 left? :'(

Had the same reaction when I found out.

But he did: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/110846/ka-pi96/

Sad as it might seem, overtime people leave, lives change it happens in all walks of life , the balance is embracing the excitement that newcomers bring and also knowing at least some will still be lurking.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Yeah, it's kinda sad :(

I found myself not posting much recently, either. I've just been too busy lately. Maybe that's what they need, you know? Just a little break.. who knows, maybe they'll come back.

Smeags will be dearly missed, like the rest. But like others have said, people change and their prioritys change as well. they might all come back in the future, even if it is to just say hi, even if under different accounts if banned. Im pretty sure toastboy has like 3 accounts here :p

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Pretty much this, life changes. And the best we could do is to show how good the community is especially to promising newcomers so they actually want to stay and develop.

What OP said about Xbox space is true tho. I'm sure there aren't more XB fans cause the enviroment is not very... friendly to them. So most of them probably just leave, or don't even sign up when they see there's not much Xbox space here.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Sad to see users like Kapi and Smeags leaving.

I hope they return one day.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It sucks when good users go inactive, but it is a natural part of any online community, and VGC is no exception (long-time users will be able to rattle off lengthy lists of great users from back in the day).

Regarding Ka-pi, I chatted with him the other day (and linked him to his round in the Greatest User tournie to show him that I'm far from the only one who wants to see him return!) - there's a chance he'll come back in a couple of months once his real life is less busy.

Really? :D
