It isnt the same, but I doubt you could trademark that either.

Its clearly the PG that is the part under consideration anyway.  Sony VR is called Sony VR.  PG is the addition.

Otherwise it would be Sony VRRPG wouldn't it?

If Marshawn Lynch can trademark "I'm just here so I don't get fined." I am fairly confident Sony will be able to trademark "VRPG" without any significant issues.  Will just mean other companies will have to license out the right to put that exact lettering on their boxes if they so choose for their things.

In the US maybe...

but it would be a pretty shitty move tbh.

That we can agree on.

I seriously doubt you can patent a genre.

In the UK for instance

You can’t patent:

-literary, dramatic, musical or artistic works
-a way of doing business, playing a game or thinking
-a method of medical treatment or diagnosis
-a discovery, scientific theory or mathematical method
-new types of plants, seeds or animals
-the way information is presented
-some computer programs

It will be a trademark for a peripheral probably.

This is a trademark not a patent.  You can trade mark just about anything except common use language.  Vrpg didn't exist until today in public use so I see no reason Sony couldn't patent this today.  ...had they waited 2 years however.

I want to believe that Sony has a card under their sleeve with the PSVR that will blow our minds.

I really, really want the VR tech to succeed.

RPG's with VR would be a Megaton, imagine a Skyrim like game with all the VR bells and whistles.

Don't you mean you want Sony VR to succeed?, why would you want non Sony VR to succeed if Sony VR is what you're going for?.

OT: As long as this doesn't disrupt other VR RPG's from being a thing and not having to pay out the ass then by all means, though I wasn't all that happy when they tried to TM and own "let's play", not all that fond of seeing corps playing that game.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Probably is the case, though I'm not sure what is the point of trademarking this?

Absolutely, but it is par for the course.

Marvel and DC own a co-trademark on the word superhero.

Texas A&M owns a trademark on "the 12th man" and Seattle pays a license fee to that college to use it for their team's fanbase.

Candy Crush Saga even tried, though I don't know if they succeeded, to get other games with the word Saga banned from app stores because of their trademark on their name.

oooooh if they actually put money into it holy shit.

It's VR-PG. Some kind of PG VR porn.
