Sony used to be a third party before entering 5th gen so it's not as if they were total strangers in the game industry and who's to say Sega wouldn't have partnered with Sony in the similar situation Nintendo did or even Sony pushing out a new platform of their own volition ?

And yes Sega would've still made the Master System considering their prior platform was the SG-1000 ...

Very good points. A fair argument your propose. The SG-1000  was not successful at all and Sega could have bowed out like Atari did. The NES may have inspired Sega to give it another whirl.

I dont know if SEGA would have come up with the side scrolling, battery back up saving, the arrow pad, shoulder buttons, rumbling control, etc etc, Gaming would have stayed in the gutter which would have led to decades of bored teenagers absorbed in TV/Home Video Violence which would have led to a very violent everyday living which obviously would have caused local authorities to be unable t perform it's duties therefore bringing chaos to the civilized world in which education took a backseat to survival and territory conquering which pretty much meant World War 3 which only could have ended with a total use of nuclear missiles by the USSR and US government which would have destroyed humanity in its entirety.

Thank you Nintendo.

But at least people would be civil enough to use commas and dots.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Another company would just take its place like atari or sega. To me it would have just taken longer at most for another company to do what they did but the events would still occur, technology must advance anyway right

Without Nintendo, we would not see Master System, Neo Geo AES, PC-Engine/Turbo Grafix 6, Playstation & Xbox.

Agreed, but in which direction? I mean what if Apple would not have existed? how would smart phones look like now a days? sure there were phones before but we can never deny that most phone makers based off the Iphone to carry on, something similar happens with Nintendo I feel.

We would have Sega, Sony, and Microsoft by now but it's not known which one would've came out on top of each other ...

Handhelds specialized for gaming wouldn't have been made until much later and also wouldn't be very mainstream until later on ...

I can guarantee you we would not have Sony and likely not Microsoft :).

About the same, probably.

Gaming was doing fine in Japan and several companies would have been in position to enter the home console market regardless of Nintendo's existence. Nintendo did not burst forth from out of a vacuum. Software companies continued to do well in arcades. As technology improved, became smaller, and grew cheaper, gaming technology inside the home became more inevitable.

The only real question would be if anyone could have grabbed the western market. Personally, I have no doubts that someone would have, as the market was clearly ready for more entertainment options.

It might have happened a year or two later but it would have happened.

I wouldn´t rule out a Master System without Nintendo. Sega´s home console plans likely formed without any plans to directly counter Nintendo. I think the Master System would have seen the day and become WAY more popular since Nintendo´s policies regarding publishers wouldn´t have been in effect.

OT: Even though I never liked Nintendo´s policies back in the 80´s and 90´s when it came to restricting content and publishers, it is thanks to them that we have this fantasic industry today. They showed the value of having quality titles and that has shaped the way forward and will leave a lasting legacy.

No one can know right now but its not like technology will halt because apple or nintendo never existed. The way you and i feel about those two companies right now is the same way we would feel had it been two other companies that made a breakthrough in phones and gaming (whether they helped in gaming breakdown or made a breakthrough in mobile phones)

The direction wouldnt matter because we would ask ourselves the same question in that parallel reality and think it as impossible lol

More like we'll never know, I cant help but wonder who would have taken us to the next level of gaming.
