Forums - Nintendo Discussion - [Updated] Can Mario kart 8 Surpass Super Mario Kart Sales-Wise?

So?

Yes! 69 49.29%

No! 35 25.00%

Maybe? 36 25.71%

Total:140

So, back in the day when Mario Kart 8 was about to launch, this question would sound a bit too crazy considering Wii U's low userbase... but since then the game surprised us all with a crazy attach rate above 50%. The game is at 6.55m right now and the year still hasn't ended technically; while Super Mario Kart stands at 8.76m.

So... considering these things, do you think this is possible or is it pushing too far?

UPDATE: According to Nintendo, the game is at 7.24m (12/31/2015). It only needs to sell 1,53m to surpass Super Mario Kart's sales.

UPDATE 2: According to Nintendo, the game is at 7.5m (03/31/2016). It only needs to sell 1,27m to surpass Super Mario Karts's sales.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

No, but it'll come very close, I'd imagine.

bet: lost

I don't think so, especially if the next console launches in 2016 or 2017

No. Not enough time and not enough of a userbase.

Sadly no because it is fantastic.

i hate to go with the crowd on this one, but no. it needs 3 million sales in the course of its lifetime, which is half of what its already got. plus a major wii u bundle that is being pushed right now is the mario kart 8 bundle, and im assuming digital sales arent being included here.

what annoying is mk wii sold what 30mil +, this game is so much better.

It might if we include digital. Which I'd imagine will be over 7 million when Nintendo posts their numbers ending December 31st...... when will they do that by the way?

Just Under...

Switch!!!

No, but it's more impressive to sell 6 million on a 12 million user base than 8 million on a 40+ million user base.
